If you’re anything like me, you’ll definitely miss your typical home cooked family meals. Â
I’m 23 years old, not rich, and Italian.
But what does this have to do with anything???…
Well, I’m 23 years old which devours any arguments about not being able to cook or prep your own food because your too young. Â I’m not rich, which kills any argument about not having enough money to buy your own food. Â And finally, I’m Italian, which shoots the argument that you have to eat your families delicious home cooked food catering to your nationality.
I freakin’ love spaghetti and carb filled plates, but I still know that I need to avoid them if I want to not only be in great shape, but also healthy in many aspects of my life.Â
There’s a huge thing to make note of that brings more importance to this post then most people will realize. Â For that reason I’m going to make the text nice and big for everyone – so there’s no way to miss it!
Nutrition and Dieting is 75-80% of your Fitness battle
Isn’t that scary?
That means, first and foremost, if you’re not focused on improving your diet you can be fighting an uphill battle. Â There are so many people that unfortunately have to deal with this on a daily basis. Â You’re making your own fitness battle un-winnable.
We all know Batman Vs. Superman is coming….right?
Well, what if I was to tell you that their battle can be compared perfectly to what we’re talking about right now?
Would you believe me?
The same way Batman has his suit and his technology, we have our nutrition. Â If you were to tell Batman to go take on Superman without it…well the story would probably be much different.
Knowing When to Avoid
In order to know when you should be avoiding certain foods, you’re going to need to have some kind of guideline to follow. Â For that reason, I am going to be telling you to follow the Paleo Guidelines.
Even when I’m using The SuperHuman Diet, I utilize paleo-like guidelines when it comes to specific foods and macro-nutrient intake. Â This means:
High Fat – Moderate Protein – Low Carbohydrate
Obviously I can write a full article, even a full book on what foods we should be avoiding and which ones we should be eating…BUT the main purpose of this article is to bring awareness and focus on the “how”.
Knowing How to Avoid
Have you ever hit a plateau in your weight loss or gain? Â Do you ever feel sluggish or like you’re training hard and more often, but still getting no where?
Well regardless of the answer – it is most likely time to start looking towards your nutrition for answers.
In the past couple days I’ve heard on multiple occasions that it’s too difficult to avoid home cooked meals and there’s no way around it. Â This has come from students in college, older men not wanting to switch up their wives cooking, and even some other examples.
So, the question becomes…
How can you avoid the home cooked meals you love and are accustomed to eating?
Well, like you’d probably guess, anything is possible – and if you truly want to live a better, more healthy life – it’s time to make this transition.
What can you do?
I feel your pain, I really do!
But, there’s a few solutions to your problem. Â It doesn’t matter if you have to start doing your own thing because others don’t feel the same way about their diet…that’s just the choice you have to make! Â And yes, I’m talking about being the only one at the family dinner table to be eating something entirely different from the rest of them!
- The first, and possibly best thing to do would be to meal prep your food each week.
Every single Sunday I prepare my food for the upcoming week. Â This will help solve any complaints about not having the money to eat your own foods. Â I literally spend as little as $30-50 each week on grocery shopping. Â
This is also great because you leave yourself no reason to give in. Â If you already have your meals prepared when you come home from a hard day at work [or school], you won’t need worry about coming home to extra work. Â The chances are you will not want to cook, but at least now you won’t have to!
- The next thing you could do is: make everyone else nutritionally aware.
The people in your family don’t have to be fat, they don’t have to have some specific dairy or gluten intolerance, and they don’t have to have some fault to scare them with. Â You can become aware on what certain foods do to your body, and in turn share the knowledge, leaving them no choice but to make the change with you. Â A great start would be to read books like you can find on my recommended reading list. Â (Also check out Grain Brain) [Amazon Link]
