A fun part of bringing in new Anime Recipes is we have seen so many different characters eating all sorts of different foods; but also many of the same foods showing up in many different anime.
Sticking to the Demon Slayer theme is also fun because we're able to go through many difference characters favorite dishes.
Can you guess whose favorite dish Ohagi is?
Anime: Demon Slayer
Inspiration: Last time we saw Sakura Mochi, which was Mitsuri's favorite dish, and this time we're getting Sanemi's favorite dish: Ohagi!
We're even lucky enough to see him chomping down on some in the Demon Slayer anime.

What is the difference between Ohagi and Botamochi?
The difference between the two is essentially the name. In autumn, the Japanese call this treat Ohagi, inspired by the autumn bush clover, Hagi. Whereas during springtime, they call this dish Botamochi.
INGREDIENTS
For Ohagi (Botamochi)
- 2 1/2 cups of sweet rice/glutinous rice (mochiigome)
- 1/2 cups uncooked Japanese short-grain rice
- 3 cups water
- 1 tsp salt
For Making Black Sesame Coating
- 6 Tbsp toasted black sesame seed
- 2 tbsp sugar
For Soybean Flour Coating
- 6 Tbsp kinako (soybean flour)
- 2 Tbsp sugar
For Red Bean Paste Filling and Coating
- 3/4 pounds red bean paste (anko)
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine your glutinous rice and short-grain rice in a large bowl and rinse and wash for about a minute or until the water is almost clear and then drain.
- Put your rice into the rice cooker. Let it soak for 20 minutes and start it in regular cooking mode while you prepare your toppings and fillings.
- Grind the sesame seeds and mix with sugar.
- In a separate bowl combine soybean flour and sugar and mix well.
- In your last bowl have your red bean paste ready and mixed well to use as coating.
- When your rice is finished let it steam (unless your rice cooker does that automatically) and mash with a wooden spoon until it's sticky.
- Wet your hands (salt water is best) and shape the rice into oval balls.
- Cover your rice with your three different toppings and serve.
