We're going to be wrapping up our Sanji recipe spree within our Anime Recipes here at SHJ in the next couple recipes, but for now lets just savor it.
This one is another easy take on one of Sanji's recipes; specifically his potato paille, AKA shoestring potatoes.
As you know, I try to make the recipes as simple (and low calorie/high protein) as possible - so that's what we're shooting for with this one as well.
Anime: One Piece
Inspiration: In Episode 228 Sanji makes his shoestring potato dish, letting the crew sample it. This is also seen in chapter 332 (thank you my Reddit peeps) of the manga.
SHJ One Piece Bonuses:
INGREDIENTS
Ingredients:
- About 6 cups vegetable (or canola) oil for frying
- (about 4 inches or so of oil)
- 2 Russet baking potatoes
Equipment:
- a deep-fat thermometer
- an adjustable blade slicer fitted with 1/8 inch julienne blade
- large deep pan/pot
Optional Toppings:
- garlic salt, chili powder, cumin, crushed dried rosemary, grated Parmesan, BBQ spices, seasoning salt, Cajun spices, etc.
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
Prep Work:
- Preferred: Cut potatoes ahead of time and chill them in a large bowl of cold water (preferably 3+ hours). Drain and pat dry before frying.
- Alternatively, you can place sliced potatoes in a large bowl of ice water and chill ten minutes at the time of cooking.
Cooking Instructions:
- Put oil in a large, deep pan or pot, attach a deep-fry thermometer to monitor temperature and heat to 350F.
- Peel potatoes and cut lengthwise with slicer to make 1/8-inch-thick julienne strips.
- Fry potatoes in 5 or 6 small batches-stirrlng, until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
- Drain potatoes on paper towels and season.
