But now Men’s Health recently published a video with Canelo Alvarez and his trainer Munir Somoya detailing his brutal boxing workout and we’re excited to be able to break it down considering Canelo is one of the top requested fighters here at SHJ.
It’s hard to share fighters workouts being that they vary so much depending on what they’re specifically training for, but we do have a bunch of specific routines we’ve seen a handful share that we’re able to use to level up our own training, as well as a decent amount of MMA styled workouts for character inspired workouts within our databases as well.
Canelo starts to video by introducing himself and his trainer for Men’s Health:
Hi, I’m Canelo Alvarez, welcome to my gym – today we’re going to do some of the exercises I use to prepare for my fight.
He then goes on to tell us a bit about his training, stating:
“Well, to maintain my regimen of training for me, for boxing, it’s important…first for my well-being. Secondly, I need to be ready for each of my fights. That’s why I need to maintain myself, always in the gym.”
From there he doesn’t waste any time and he hands off the reigns to his Strength and Conditioning Coach Munir Somoya who takes us through the workout with Canelo performing each movement.
Munir Somoya says that he specifically chooses some of the exercises to be fat burning exercises to burn weight prior to a fight.
He also says that he has three different kinds of bands (depending on the resistance), which he’ll use with the movements I break down below, in order to work around not only Canelo’s legs in general, but also the explosive power behind him.
