Alright, so I’ll be honest here for a second.
I went and saw “Why Him” the other night and I was like: “Crap! Â I guess I have to write a James Franco workout routine now!”.
And the reason I started that with “Crap!” is because James Franco is one of my all time favorite actors and not once did he pop into my head when writing workouts.
I know, it’s probably because he’s never been a Superhero, but he HAS been the mother-freakin’ New Goblin!
You might have to think back to the ORIGINAL Spider-Man movies with Tobey Maguire, not Tom Holland, who I’m actually going to reference in about a second…
I said it in the last workout routine from Tom Holland that I want to start posting stats because I tend to only do it for monsters like Dwayne Johnson and Chris Hemsworth, and I’m stickin’ to it here.
Drum Roll Please!
We’re starting with some stats.
James Franco’s Stats:
Height: 5’10
Approximate Weight: 165 lbs. (based on research; not my own guesstimate)
Alright. So, that being said, we’re dealing with a moderately skinnier build for a 5’10 frame.
(Keep in mind, I kind of automatically have to say that considering I’m 185 lbs at 5’6)
And, do I have to state the obvious that you should be recognizing these stats and comparing them to your own body frame if you’re looking to achieve a body type like this?
Now, while I’m not saying this should discourage you, because the routine is for ANYONE looking to get a similar body, I AM saying that we have a full workout database of Celebs/Superheroes that you could be choosing from as well.
Just some things to consider; as always.

James Franco Diet Plan
Now, if you haven’t already been to the Nutrition Pillars, you should probably head over there. Â There’s a ton of different variations to choose from that you can utilize to get any body type. Â And, we’ve literally seen just about every body type use them!
Don’t believe me? Â We have guys like Dwayne Johnson using calorie counting and cheat meals, Hugh Jackman using Intermittent Fasting, and Brandon Routh using Paleo.
So, for James Franco’s frame I’m going to recommend Intermittent Fasting (Infographic) in conjunction with a dietary guideline of your choice (options can be found in the pillars), and cyclical ketosis.
It’s as simple as that, folks!
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais, & Eat Fat, Lose Fat) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.Â
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hopper, and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.

James Franco Workout Routine Research
Like always, I’m digging deeper into the celebs training and sharing a ton of sources with you at the same time. Â From there we’ll go into a full workout routine that you can utilize to achieve his body.
Right off the bat multiple sources let me know that James Franco likes to utilize these in his training:
- Jump rope exercises
- Sit-ups
- Push-ups
- Kickboxing
- Speed bag Punching
We can dig it!
And, the more I read, the more I find out about his fondness of boxing being incorporated with his training.
Hm, maybe that’s why he likes to kick-ass with training in “Why Him?”…
But, overall Franco is pretty low maintenance and utilizes a simple routine based around body-weight stuff and fun training.
Simplicity is king, and it even allows us to get right into it!
