Fire Force is a beautiful Japanese anime that comes from the same hand as the equally amazing anime Soul Eater. In fact, I am a huge Soul Eater fan, so it was only natural that this anime would quickly grow on me. Fire Force has gained a strong following during its run so far, and now I have the pleasure of seeing just who amongst all the characters has grown the most popular with the fans.
Many characters in this series deserve recognition, but only 12 shall be chosen. However, I will be sure to throw in some runner-ups as well.

For this one we scoured the internet for help and almost every single listicle has a different take on who the most popular Fire Force characters are. So what we decided to do was compile ALL of them together and then took the average of all the compiled ratings and placed them in their slot accordingly. Additional characters who did not make it in the top twelve that deserve a mention as well can be seen in the runner-up section.

At number twelve of the most popular Fire Force characters is the mysterious Joker!
Joker is a man always on a mission, and holds an indomitable will to achieve his goals. His ultimate goal is to hold the power and ability to gain the answers to his questions, and being raised as an assassin for the Holy Sol Temple, he holds many. Just as his ability to create flaming cards shows, he is always thinking of the next best hand to play to help him moving forward with his next self-proclaimed task. Though he has a strange way of showing his allegiance, and general lack of ethic with achieving whatever needs to be done, he is like a dark guardian angel for our number one slot, Shinra Kusakabe.

Number Eleven: Sho Kusakabe
Generation: Third and Fourth
Pyrokinesis: Burning Feathers
At number eleven of the most popular Fire Force characters is the cold Sho Kusakabe!
Sho is the polar opposite to that of his brother Shinra. He is a cold and calm individual who holds an unwavering confidence in his ability. He is deeply loyal to the Evangelist, completely suppressing his memory of his brother and mother to the point that the Evangelist is all he’s really known. However, during his battle against Shinra, who he initially could care less about, their link grows continually stronger. Through their Adolla Link, Sho regains his lost memory and realizes the respect and care that he holds for his brother and becomes another guardian angel to assist Shinra in his mission.
Sho Kusakabe at SHJ:
Number Ten: Konro Sagamiya
Generation: Third
Pyrokinesis: Flaming Fists
At number ten of the most popular Fire Force characters is the chill Konro Sagamiya!
Konro is a beautiful contrast with that of Benimaru Shinmon. He is a very calm and courteous individual who holds a strong loyalty to his squad and those he cares for. He is the unfortunate victim of a condition known as Tephrosis, which leaves his body permanently burned and worsens when his abilities are used. This was caused by the overuse of his power in order to stop an Infernal from destroying everything in its wake. Konro is willing to sacrifice his own body in order to ensure the safety of others.

Number Nine: Takehisa Hinawa
Generation: Second
Pyrokinesis: Firearm Manipulation
At number nine of our most popular Fire Force characters is the firearms expert Takehisa Hinawa!
Takehisa walks with an aura of intimidation around him. He is a direct contrast to Captain Obi of Squad 8, being very serious and taking no shit from anyone. Especially upon first meeting, most are terrified of his intimidating gaze and lack of humor. Under this hard and strict shell however, lies a caring man who looks out for his squad and those he is called to assist.
Go ahead and tell me you can stand up against that serious look…

Number Eight: Akitaru Obi
This guy is simply a beast and wields whatever weapons he needs for the situation…
At number eight among the most popular Fire Force characters is the classic firefighter Akitaru Obi!
Captain Obi is what we could only hope to achieve as we gain the famous SHJ Superhuman body. He is the pinnacle of human strength and endurance, going up against Infernals like its nothing despite having zero pyrokinetic ability.
But enough about how much of a beast he is this is a popularity contest…
Akitaru is an amazingly courageous man who is willing to face the greatest of dangers to ensure the safety of the citizens that he is tasked to protect. He possesses a strong empathy for others, even going as far as to demand the respect of the souls that must be vanquished as they become Infernals, as well as those whose lives are affected by the unfortunate circumstance. He also possesses a quirky and nonchalant personality which can lead to some interesting situations.
Akitaru Obi at SHJ:
Number Seven: Hibana

At number seven of our most popular Fire Force characters is Fire Force’s Cherry Blossom: Hibana!
If you like a good dominatrix this is the girl for you…
Hibana is a strong, independent woman who believes that most subordinates should be groveling at her feet.
She quite literally has a walkway of men that she uses to step down from her throne…
Her view of Infernals is that they are filth and nothing but research subjects to be dissected and observed. She has a growing crush on Shinra Kusakabe, who ironically is the one who smacks some sense into her during a more villainous phase of her life. Her more sadistic personality traits are actually in part due from an extreme trauma she experienced as a young girl. This experience however, is a turning point for her as well that brings her to realize the errors of her ways, and begins to show a warmer heart later in the anime, though never really losing her display of sovereignty.
Hibana at SHJ:
Number Six: Arthur Boyle

At number six of our most popular Fire Force characters is the mighty wielder of the sword: Arthur Boyle!
Not going to lie, this guy captured my attention with his whole King Arthur mentality…
Arthur is a delusional and arrogant young man who believes he is a mighty Arthurian warrior who possesses great combat strength. He is constantly seen using old english phrases and speaking in a way similar to that of the medieval/renaissance era. He perceives the world as a grand adventure and looks at everyone like they are part of his knightly crew or a combatant who has chosen to stand before him and fight. Arthur is actually quite popular with the ladies, and when push comes to shove is a reliable compatriot to have in a hard fight.

Number Five: Iris

Coming in at number five of our most popular Fire Force characters is Sister Iris!
Iris is generally a shy individual who holds closely to her religious beliefs. She is very courteous to others, to the point of caring more for another before worrying about herself. She is actually a brave woman in the face of danger and though she does not possess a strong affinity for offensive abilities, she still stands and fights. She believes strongly in her duty to pass Infernals on to the next life and will not let danger stop her from doing what she must to ensure a soul’s journey to the afterlife.

Number Four: Benimaru Shinmon

Pyrokinesis: Sun Wheel
At number four among the most popular Fire Force characters is a human god: Benimaru Shinmon!
When this man fights he looks like a sun god…
Benimaru is a lone wolf who prefers to work alone or with those he solely trusts. He is short-tempered, just as a raging flame, and has little respect for rank, though he has plenty of rank himself. There is a protective and caring side to Benimaru however, especially when it’s in defense of his town and the general population that surrounds him. He ends up being a harsh but respectable mentor to Arthur and Shinra, as they learn how to enhance their abilities to the next level.

Number Three: Maki Oze

At number three of the most popular Fire Force characters is the fire spirit user Maki Oze!
Maki is a hopeless romantic who also possesses the resolve of an ex-soldier. When in combat, she holds a mighty resolve which not even a powerful flame user can break. She is both a sweet character who uses adorable fire spirits in combat, who do pack a punch, and a defensive wall for comrades to stand behind. She is also absolutely ripped and would make SHJ quite proud with her physical prowess and finesse.
Maki Oze at SHJ:
Number Two: Tamaki Kotatsu
Generation: Third
Pyrokinesis: Feline Flame Cloak
Coming in at number two among the most popular Fire Force characters is the flaming feline Tamaki Kotatsu!
In essence, Tamaki has a very cute ability where she basically gains some cat ears and claws made of flames. She is a kind and friendly ally who aspires to become ever stronger to assist in the defeat of Infernals and assist their souls into the afterlife. She is a fully licensed sister, giving her the ability to speak a prayer over Infernals to help them be put to rest properly. She is also a huge fan service character, as she is found constantly losing some, if not all of her clothes as a side effect of her abilities or during combat.

Pyrokinesis: Devil’s Footprint
At number one of the most popular Fire Force characters is everyone’s favorite devil: Shinra Kusakabe!
Shinra is a driven and ambitious fire soldier who grew “from the ashes” of a rough childhood. Similar to characters such as Naruto, he was treated like filth and called a devil for much of his life after being blamed for the death of his mother, and the supposed death of a sibling. Shinra never let these harsh words push him down though, and has become a mighty soldier who stops at nothing to protect the citizens he is entrusted with and defend those he cares for.
This guy flies around like he’s got jet propulsion in his feet…
