For our list of the most popular manga of 2021 we're going to be taking a look at sales volume posted by Oricon.
It's no surprise that sales volume is dominated by Japanese sales; although manga continues to explode in the United States, bringing our Comics/Graphic Novels/Manga genre up somewhere in the range of nearing 200% increases, the driving force of sales, and originator is Japan.
As we take a look at our list, though, we can see a direct correlation with the most popular and most sold manga in Japan with the manga and anime that dominate the charts here in the United States as well.

First up on the list of the most popular manga of 2021, at number fifteen on our list, is That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime!
Also known as slime, or Tensura, it came in with nearly 3 million units sold.
You'll see that all the way up to our manga number eleven on the list stays under four million units sold, so while the others are half a million or more ahead of Slime, Slime is still in a whole different league compared to smaller manga.

Next up on our list, coming in at number fourteen on our list of the most popular manga in 2021, is Record Of Ragnarok!
I LOVED the Record of Ragnarok anime on Netflix and even read a couple of the manga volumes, but with so many incredible manga to choose from I ultimately picked up some other titles.
It comes in a couple hundred thousand units sold ahead of Tensura, which makes it already a dominant force in manga - so clearly the lack of me purchasing another handful of units really put a dent in these numbers.

NUMBER THIRTEEN: DR. STONE

Coming in at number thirteen on our list of the most popular manga of 2021 is Dr. Stone!
While I watched Record of Ragnarok and read a couple volumes, I can't necissarily say the same for Dr. Stone.
I have personally never read any of the manga, although I know a bunch of people who love it, and I only watched enough of the anime to do research for our character workouts.
That said, it's clearly dominating the charts, and while we were on our short burst of filling up our database you guys were flooding the request form for more workouts.

Next up is a manga (and anime) that will likely never make it into our Anime Workouts Database, but one that is incredible nevertheless.
I had so many people reach out to me telling me I NEED to either read the manga or watch the anime as soon as possible, and at the time my list was growing so much I felt like I was never going to be able to catch up.
That said, after enough pestering, I finally watched the anime and am SO glad I did. This one lives up to the hype and deserves all the sales, nearly hitting 3.5 million units sold.

Not quite making the top ten and coming in at number eleven on our list of the most popular manga of 2021 is a series that I am currently in love with.
I already have the next volume pre-ordered and I'm anxiously awaiting for it to come out.
This one, along with Sakamoto Days, that deserves a shoutout even though it doesn't come in as a top seller in 2021 (probably 2022!) are my top two reads other than Jujutsu Kaisen.

Bringing us into the top ten most popular manga of 2021 and blowing the doors open with not only over four million units sold, but nearly 4.5 million; is Haikyuu!
I actually never read a sports themed anime manga, although I have watched the anime and enjoyed them, but recently picked up Blue Lock Vol. 1 and loved it, which has me thinking it's time to give Haikyuu the shot it clearly deserves.

Number nine on our list of the most popular manga of 2021 actually had me a little surprised, if I'm being honest.
I know Kingdom is a huge seller in Japan, but I had no idea it was THIS big.
Kingdom comes in with more than 4.5 million units sold and doesn't seem like it's slowing down anytime soon.
So far it hasn't picked up as much steam in the US, which is likely why we've only seen two characters at SHJ thus far, but I have a feeling it will grow in popularity and suddenly have a big takeover mission here.

Our either manga on our list of the most popular manga of 2021 is another one of my favorites: Spy X Family.
I devoured the manga AND the anime and loved every second of it (and as I'm writing this we're currently getting new episodes and it's one of my weekly watches along with Blue Lock, Bleach and My Hero Academia).
Spy X Family had nearly 5 million units sold, and it deserves all of them. I wouldn't be surprised if it continues to have overwhelming success for a long while.

Slowly bringing us closer to our top five most popular manga of 2021 is Chainsaw Man at number seven.
I wanted to love Chainsaw Man. I gave the manga a shot, and I even continue to give the anime a shot.
I wasn't in love with the manga, but I did actually like it more than the anime, but that's more due to the style selection of the anime than anything else (just not my style); so at the end of the day I'm a fan, but it's just not one of my titles that I'm dying to read as it releases like some of these other picks.

Just missing the top five, even with over seven million units sold, is One Piece!
One Piece has been a top seller for years, so it's seven million units sold is a huge feat and it continues to crush the boards with no signs of slowing down.
And, not surprisingly, it's one of our largest workout databases at SHJ, and also one of the most popular anime of all time as well.

Bringing us into our top five most popular manga of 2021, just skimming in with less than 20,000 units sold more than One Piece is My Hero Academia.
I have learned that a lot of fans either absolutely love or absolutely dislike My Hero Academia for some reason.
I'm in the love category when it comes to both the anime and the manga.
I'm not a huge fan of some of the filler series they've built around it, but I think that's more because I have so many incredible manga to read and don't really need the filler so much as more main storyline to look forward to!

Climbing higher before our numbers explode and coming in at number four on our list of the most popular manga of 2021 is Attack On Titan.
We've slowly climbed up the numbers and we're at nearly 7.5 million units sold, but we're about to absolutely skyrocket with the next manga on our list.
Attack On Titan has been extremely popular all around the world, so this number isn't shocking, but I have a feeling it is going to fall off a bit quicker than some of these incredible manga that have stayed in the top ten for years now.

Moving us from just over 7 million units sold all the way to just above 25 million units and coming in at number three among our most popular manga of 2021 is Tokyo Revengers!
Yes, you read that right, number THREE has 25 million units sold, exploding our numbers and just getting us started in our top three.
Tokyo Revengers also did extremely well in the US and the anime blew up for a bit as well, making the workout database here at SHJ fill quickly and have members blowing up the request form for months.

Number two among our most popular manga of 2021 brings us closer to 30 million units sold: Demon Slayer!
Just a reminder here: most of our manga on this list ranged from 3 to 7 million, and Demon Slayer is coming in as number two at nearly 30 million.
I'm a huge Demon Slayer fan, and, just like many of the other super popular manga on our list: we have a monstrous workout database for our slayers (and even demons).
This is one of the manga I have read through and continue waiting for more to release (even the new light novels)!

Coming in at number one among our most popular manga of 2021 is my current all time favorite (apparently I'm not alone here): Jujutsu Kaisen!
I cannot get enough of this manga and with some manga I sit there hoping the anime will release sooner rather than later so I can binge it and stick to reading other manga with my time, but Jujutsu Kaisen is one that I anxiously await the next volumes with pre-orders.
Our JJK workout database is also humongous, with awesome characters receiving multiple workout variations and you guys continuing to ask for more.
With nearly 31 million units sold, Jujutsu Kaisen is the manga king of 2021.
