So Max Thieriot got jacked.
Like not just messing around jacked. Like big, strong, ripped, super, jacked.
If you don’t know who Max Thieriot is, I’m going to assume it’s because you can’t even recognize him, but I’ll also tell you anyways.
Thieriot has starred in roles like Bates Motel, Jumper, and even The Pacifier with Vin Diesel.
If those don’t ring a bell Thieriot was also in Texas Rising, Point Break (2015), and most recently (which is where he training seemed to begin), Seal Team!
Max Thieriot Stats:
Height: 5’10
Weight: (approximate) 175 lbs.
Age: 31 years old
Max Thieriot is actually below average height among male celebs we’ve seen at SHJ.
His height was listed anywhere from 5’9-5’11, but I decided to list him right in the middle; although either way does not change where he lands among other male celebs.
The average height falls in the range of 6’1-6’3 with celebs like Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Adam Driver, Stephen Amell, Clive Standen and so many more.
Guys around 5’10-6’0 are dudes like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Jason Statham, but the ACTUAL shorter range is filled with guys like Mark Wahlberg, Zac Efron, Kit Harington, Tom Holland and more.
Even taller than them are guys like The Mountain, Joe Manganiello, Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Winston Duke, Alexander Skarsgard and a few others.
But, don’t worry either way.
We write these routines to be utilized by any shape and size.

Max Thieriot Diet and Nutrition
To get the Max Thieriot physique it’s going to take a good diet (if that wasn’t obvious).
Thieriot started out fairly slim and lean and then bulked up, tacking on muscle and keeping the abs.
One thing we know about Thieriot’s nutrition is that he was utilizing a high protein diet.
He was still having carbs and fats, but they were in moderation and the main focus was a slow and steady bulk with high protein levels to sustain his mass gaining.
Which clearly worked out pretty well…
In one of his Twitter posts he writes:
“Post workout protein powder is a thing of the past…All about the choco milk and raw egg whites!”
Now, I don’t know how I feel about this exactly, but he did share a picture of a full carton of the chocolate milk and half a cup full of “FreeRun” Egg Whites poured into a clear cup.
Hey, if you want to try that, by all means: do your thing.
Prior to being ripped for Seal Team Thieriot actually began prepping for a shirtless scene in Bates Motel. Here’s what he tells Just Jared:
JJ: You had to go shirtless for that one scene this season. How did you prepare for it?
MT: There’s actually another scene that will come up where I have my shirt off. I just kind of started preparing for that, but, to be honest, I was actually a little disappointed because I wasn’t supposed to be shirtless that day. I just kind of started my diet. I started cutting down a little bit. I was a little disappointed that day because I just ate a giant breakfast and hadn’t worked out and done all these things and then they say “you’re going to take a shirt off in the scene.” I was like, “no, really?” There wasn’t really a lot that went into that. I’ve been on a constant gym binge for the past few years now. It’s been a constant gradual binge. It’s always constantly changing as they want to be big and then they want you to be be skinnier or cut.
So, like tons of other celebs, we see that Thieriot is constantly changing and adapting.
Although, for his Seal Team bod he seems to have found his stride because he’s the biggest and most ripped we’ve ever seen him; plus he seems to be sustaining it pretty well!
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais, & Eat Fat, Lose Fat) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hopper, and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.

Max Thieriot Workout Routine Research
Jumping from Bates Motel to Seal Team, Max Thieriot’s training obviously changed.
He mentions that he had been training for years prior, constantly adapting and evolving, but something clearly changed for the better for this role.
Lucky for us, Thieriot is pretty active on social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter and we can get a decent idea of the style training he is utilizing.
On his Instagram Thieriot loves to post pics of his new physique (shirtless), but every time he shares a picture of him training (or in the mirror) you can clearly see that he is training in a weight room (as opposed to a less typical training platform like circuit training, classes, etc.).
He has also posted some training videos that include him performing these movements:
- Tricep Cable Pushdowns
- Push-Ups w/ Child on his Back 😛
- Sled Pushes
- Ball Slams
- Wide Grip Pull Ups
- Close Grip Pull Ups
- Deadlifts
- Incline Bench Press
And as I dug a bit deeper I found that he actually is switching up his training from typical weight room style (with compound lifts and accessory work which we’ll utilize during his training) and circuit style sets to get into the real Seal Team style.
He tells Seal42F in an interview for Season 1 of Seal Team:
What has been the most physically challenging thing you’ve had to do?
MAX: The course that we ran the other day was super challenging. The rope climb wasn’t too bad. We ended up going the rope wall like twenty feet, not like twelve. We did the full course probably like four or five times, so I was really tired after going through it that many times.
So while I first made note of his weight room pictures, with further research and digging I was able to see that he’s doing BOTH styles of training.
From weight lifting techniques to gain the mass all the way to circuit style performance training.
Be prepared for a killer workout.
