Who’s already watching Black Lightning?
I know I am.
I’m stoked to have a new show added to the already incredible CW lineup. And, you guys know how much we love the actors from the CW shows.
We’ve already seen Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Caity Lotz, Grant Gustin, Manu Bennett, Tyler Hoechlin, Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Melissa Benoist, Emily Bett Rickards, David Ramsey, Brandan Routh, Dominic Purcell, and more!
And I’m sure I’m probably missing one or two…
An awesome quote from The Washington Post has Williams saying:
“I wanted to be a part of it so bad,” Williams told The Post’s Comic Riffs while in Washington for the DC Comics event “DC in D.C.” on Saturday. “I was getting up in age. I just thought, maybe this is a dream that just won’t be realized. And then [Black Lightning] came along, and not only is it fulfilling this dream of what I wanted, but it’s more than that. It’s telling a story that’s even more important in a package that’s even more [socially conscious] than I could have ever hoped for.”
Well, we’re happy to have him!
Cress Williams Stats:
Height: 6’4
Weight:(approximate) 190 lbs.
Age: 47 years old
Cress Williams’ 6’4 makes him one of the taller celeb males we’ve had on the site.
He’s right up there with guys like Dwayne Johnson, Joe Manganiello, Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa and Ben Affleck.
Our average is more around the range of 6’1-6’3 with guys like Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Chris Pine, and a ton of others.
I just felt like using all the Chris celebs there…
And, of course, we have the shorter dudes like me with celebs like Daniel Radcliffe, Zac Efron, Tom Holland, Kit Harington, Mark Wahlberg and more.
But, this is just for a fun comparison.
This workout is good to be used by anyone and everyone.

Cress Williams Diet and Nutrition
People are immediately asking to train and eat like Cress William’s Black Lightning.
For that reason I am getting this article out to The SHJ Army as soon as possible.
That being said, there isn’t much information about William’s exact nutrition and diet, BUT, I am going to base the routine and dietary information around his physique and whatever information I can find for us (which I’ll obviously be sharing as well).
Williams is 6’4+ and sports a skinnier, toned and lean physique.
For that reason, if you’d like to sport the same, our normal suggestions for The SHJ Army when it comes to nutrition, will definitely be suited here as well.
We’re about sustainability first and foremost, which is something we translate into all The Academy Nutrition Classes (Spartans, SuperHumans, Minimalists, Vikings, Monks, Hunter Gatherers, Samurais) as well.
As far as what you should be looking into for your own nutrition, I would suggest reading into intermittent fasting (which is something guys like Hugh Jackman, Dwayne Johnson, and Terry Crews all use), cyclical ketosis, calorie counting, and protein intake.
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.
A combination of these resources is exactly what I utilize in my own diet.

Cress Williams Workout Routine Research
As I said in the diet and nutrition section: there is not much information out there about William’s exact routine.
BUT, I do know that he has been training for the role, and he definitely seemed to have bulked up a bit to take the suit of Black Lightning.
When asked what it’s like to be a superhero, Cress Williams responded with:
First of all, just being the lead of the show, I’m in virtually every scene and that’s just a lot of acting work, a lot of memorization. And then there’s the physical aspect, I have to keep myself in shape, and it’s hard to find those hours in the day to get a workout in. And then there’s the action aspect, so there’s always new fight routines to learn. It’s taxing, but when you’re doing something that you love and are really proud of, that’s what helps pull you through.
I keep in the part about the acting because I want to make mention that these celebs have it just as hard, if not harder than us.
I know a lot of people believe that it’s only possible for them to get into the shape they do because they think they have all the time in the world, but that is just not usually the case.
Cress Williams gives just a taste of that motivation in that quote.
Another thing we get from that is the mention of his “fight routines” which leads me to believe that’s part of the cardio we’ll have to include in the workout.
You’re welcome Coach Derek (our fight coach).
So, we’re going to do some cardio, fight training, and bulking all in one for this routine. William’s sports that lean physique, but he definitely added on some mass for his Black Lightning role as well – which I know will have to be shown within the routine as well.
Let’s do this.
