It felt like we needed to add a touch of comedy to SHJ.
Sure, we have Kevin Hart, but we all know I love me some good Pitch Perfect, and Anna Kendrick and Hailee Steinfeld were feeling lonely.
You probably know Devine from hit show Workaholics, but other than that and Pitch Perfect he’s also made his way into roles like When We First Met, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and most recently Jexi.
And we’ll be coming back to Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, because when you’re in a roll with Zac Efron that forces you to be shirtless…well…life changes.
Adam Devine Stats:
Height: 5’7-5’8
Weight: (approximate) 170 lbs.
Age: 35 years old
So he’s also right around the same height as Efron.
Seems like there could have been some sibling rivalry on the set of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.
The average height falls in the range of 6’1-6’3 with celebs like Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Adam Driver, Stephen Amell, Clive Standen and so many more.
Guys around 5’10-6’0 are dudes like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Jason Statham, but the ACTUAL shorter range is filled with guys like Mark Wahlberg, Zac Efron, Kit Harington, Tom Holland and more.
Even taller than them are guys like The Mountain, Joe Manganiello, Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Winston Duke, Alexander Skarsgard and a few others.
But, don’t worry either way.
We write these routines to be utilized by any shape and size.

Adam Devine Diet and Nutrition
On an everyday basis (if you’re going for the regular-sustainable-Devine route) Devine eats essentially what he wants and just goes through his day fairly intuitively.
But, when it was time to jump into a roll with Zac Efron, especially one that required both studs to be shirtless, Devine decided to step it up a notch.
Here’s what he had to say before it was time to cut back:
“I’m eating as many tacos as I can right now because I know my life is about to change,” DeVine said. “And then I’m just going to do it. I don’t want to do the movie and have people like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s Zac Efron and the fat guy from Pitch Perfect.’ That’s not something I want. It’s just a total vanity thing.”
Man, I love tacos. So I get it.
He also did an interview with Bon Appetit prior to the movie, where he talks all things grilling and “His One Giant Ab”.
Here’s some of the interview:
You play a guy who parties too hard in Mike and Dave. How rowdy do your summer barbecues get?
We like to get…not too drunk. Sober enough that you can safely man the grill, but still drunk enough that an arm-wrestling competition might break out. I’ve got stubby little T. rex arms, though, so I never win. What are you grilling?
I’ll chop up some onions and peppers and put them on the top rack, let them get all crispy and delicious, then I might throw on some corn. Do I keep the husks on to lock in the flavor? Yeah, I do. I’m from Nebraska—we know how to cook corn. What about meat?
Growing up in Omaha, I would eat steak four times a week. My family would literally buy half a cow every year. I live in L.A. now, so I’ve segued into lean cuts of chicken because I’m suddenly worried about my chin fat. During the off-season when I’m not worried about chin fat, it’s straight steaks to the face.
Although not all of the interview was serious:
What’s your steak prep?
I usually cut a couple of holes in it, make a little mask out of it, and terrify my girlfriend as she walks around the corner. That’s usually the first thing I do.
He also talks about his love for Bud Light at one point in the interview, and continues on, eventually making his way to his giant ab:
You’ve been filming in Hawaii a lot lately. Did you eat well there?
I was just eating açaí bowls and poké bowls every day. That was my diet. The best poké was at this gas station. Everyone was like, “Oh, you gotta go to the gas station.” I was like, “Guys, that sounds very unsafe and disgusting.” But they beat me down and I went and it was truly awesome.Did Mike and Dave qualify as swimsuit season for you? There must be added pressure when Zac Efron is taking his shirt off.
I got in the best shape of my life just to make it believable that I could be Zac Efron’s older brother. I had abs for like three weeks! But now I’m back to my old ways: one giant ab.
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais, & Eat Fat, Lose Fat) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hopper, and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.

Adam Devine Workout Routine Research
Adam Devine is kind of a weird case-study in the world of fitness and celeb physiques.
We sometimes see guys who drop 20-30 lbs only to gain it all back, and then we see guys like Chris Pratt (I use him on purpose) who drop the Dad-Bod and keep it off, only to come back twice as hard during his next role.
Devine on the other hand is somewhere in the middle.
In the diet and nutrition section we see he went “back to his old ways” in some areas, but it’s very clear that he has still be keeping up with a lot of his training (and what seems to be his nutrition as well) by the physique he continues to show off in beach pics with girlfriend Chloe Bridges, and new roles.
While this middle area is kind of different, the swing of sustainable and unsustainable among celeb transformations is one of the main focuses in my book.
And, since you’re dying to know why I specifically chose Chris Pratt (other than his chiseled abs), here’s what Devine tells E News!:
“It shoots in Hawaii, so we both have to have our shirts off,” DeVine told me at a SXSW cocktail party for his new horror comedy The Final Girls. “I just got the personal trainer who trained Chris Pratt to go from fat guy to look at him today!”
I even bolded Chris Pratt’s name for you.
You’re welcome.
So now we know what we’re working with.
And Pratt actually has multiple workout variations so we’ll be utilizing the one that took him from Dad-Bod to Superhero.
Get ready.
