Ewan McGregor’s workout hasn’t made it to the site prior to this because he’s not always the first person you think of when you’re looking up a workout.
But how can we NOT want to train like Obi-Wan and Black Mask…?
We recently saw a list of all the Star Wars Inspired Workouts we’ve seen at SHJ, and spoiler alert, Obi-Wan wasn’t there, but there’s plenty of other characters and celebrities to choose from.
McGregor hasn’t just starred in Star Wars, though, he’s also starred in roles like Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge!, and recently movies like Christopher Robin, Doctor Sleep and even Birds of Prey!
So while I might send the ladies over to either Margot Robbie’s workout or even Harley Quinn’s workout if they’re looking to train for Birds of Prey; McGregor is going to fill the void for the men.
Ewan McGregor Stats:
Height: 5’10
Weight: (approximate) 175 lbs.
Age: 48 years old
McGregor is usually listed around 5’9-5’10, which puts him in a shorter category of men.
At the 5’10 marker he’d fall under the average, but would push him up into being taller than the shortest group.
The average height falls in the range of 6’1-6’3 with celebs like Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Adam Driver, Stephen Amell, Clive Standen and so many more.
Guys around 5’10-6’0 are dudes like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Jason Statham, but the ACTUAL shorter range is filled with guys like Mark Wahlberg, Zac Efron, Kit Harington, Tom Holland and more.
Even taller than them are guys like The Mountain, Joe Manganiello, Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Winston Duke, Alexander Skarsgard and a few others.
But, don’t worry either way.
We write these routines to be utilized by any shape and size.

Ewan McGregor Diet and Nutrition
In Trainspotting McGregor plays the role of a heroin addict.
In order to look the part, he lost over 25 pounds!
There was actually nothing crazy about his dietary changes to do-so, which makes this even more fun to share considering such small swaps, to keep it sustainable for him, were enough to have that much of an impact on his overall weight.
He told Neon Magazine about the changes he had to make to drop the weight here:
“I grilled everything, and stopped drinking beer. I drank wine and lots of gin instead. The weight just falls off.”
Nothing life changing.
But, technically speaking, it was.
Twenty five pounds is a lot of weight for a lot of people, and making such simple swaps could do just that!
On a more regular basis, McGregor seems to stick to his beer and eat fairly intuitively. When he needs to prep a bit for a role, he’ll cut the beer, start grilling and switch it up slightly to drop a few pounds.
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais, & Eat Fat, Lose Fat) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hopper, and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.

Ewan McGregor Workout Routine Research
Ewan McGregor hates the gym.
Hates it. It bores him.
Too bad this wasn’t an article on how to get your hair as awesome as his…
In an interview with Men’s Health McGregor and they share some fun information about his running:
He hates the gym. Free weights, circuit training, treadmills — they bore him. “Oh, and squats,” he says, as we head down the coast. “They make me angry and nauseous.”
But he does like running. He likes the jolt it gives him, and the way it keeps him lean. Five miles is his standard run, but he sometimes pushes it to 8, iPod cranked. These days he’s running to Pink Floyd, and to the album Absolution, by the British band Muse. “It’s so grand and splendid and loud, it brings me out of any negative state,” he says.
The cardio work came in handy recently while McGregor was filming I Love You Phillip Morris with Jim Carrey inside the legendary Angola prison, also known as the maximum-security Louisiana State Penitentiary.
“All the extras we were using were lifers, real killers,” McGregor says. “In one scene where I’m supposed to chase Jim through the prison, I had to start at the far end of the corridor, surrounded by a fearsome-looking group of men. I was hoping none of them would crack and decide it would be fun to murder me. At one point, a big guy with a comb stuck in his afro kind of wandered over to me and said, ‘Hey, I think there should be a scene where I fight Jim for you,’ and I just took off down the hall.”
Yes, he said squats make him angry and nauseous, so don’t expect to see those in the training regime below.
And, in case you didn’t read that whole slab of text, here’s some more specific about his running:
- 5 Miles is his Average (Standard) Run
- Sometimes he pushes it to 8 Miles
- He cranks his iPod to Pink Floyd and the album Absolution, by British band Muse
Don’t worry if 5-8 miles seems like a grueling feat right now, we’ll work up to it.
If you’re not much of a runner, or not interested in becoming one, I suggest heading over to the blog feed or Workout Database and choosing a different path.
