Recently I had the pleasure of ranking the absolute powerhouses that appear in the Bleach anime. Today however, we are going to look at these characters with a different filter. Who amongst all these characters are the most exciting and enjoyable?

Many characters in this series deserve recognition, but only 10 shall be chosen. However, I will be sure to throw in some runner-ups as well.

For this one we scoured the internet for help and almost every single listicle has a different take on who the most popular Bleach characters are. So what we decided to do was compile ALL of them together and then took the average of all the compiled ratings and placed them in their slot accordingly. Additional characters who did not make it in the top ten that deserve a mention as well can be seen in the runner-up section.

Number Ten: Byakuya Kuchiki

Race: Soul

“Arrogance destroys the foothold of victory”

At number ten of the most popular Bleach characters is the aristocratic Byakuya Kuchiki!

Byakuya appears to be a very calm and apathetic man who believes strongly in the law and order of the Soul Society. As head of the Kuchiki clan, he holds a heavy weight which shows in is outward personality. Deep within the cold and serene calm that is generally seen from Byakuya, there is a deep protectiveness and care for those close to him, especially towards his adoptive sister Rukia. But be one of his enemies, and one will be met with a cold resolve that is not broken even in the heat of battle.

Number Nine: Kon

Race: Modified Soul

“Extra large…puffy wuffy…booby woobies!”

Coming in at number nine of our most popular Bleach characters is the anime version of Ted: Kon!

Kon begins his life in the anime as a simple pill, which Ichigo has the “pleasure” of swallowing. Upon swallowing the pill, Kon is released within Ichigo’s body and goes for a nice joy ride. After being captured, Kon is placed inside the body of a stuffed teddy bear, which has no diminishing effects on his ambitious and careless personality. He is a very perverted character who is constantly seen making some sort of sexual reference toward a female. However, Kon is not without a set of morals. He is sickened by the sight of anyone mistreating another’s life, especially those of an experimental nature such as his own. He as also sworn to never take the life of another, as he himself has known what it is like to fear the day that one’s life may cease to exist.

Number Eight: Gin Ichimaru

Race: Soul

“Feelings, eh? Nah, ‘fraid not. Don’t got none o’ them. Didn’t I tell ya, back when we first met? I’m a snake. Cold of flesh and devoid of heart. My tongue flicks back and forth, ever in search of new prey, and if I like what I find, I swallow ’em whole.”

At number eight among the most popular Bleach characters is the unsettling Gin Ichimaru!

This guy is a straight up mystery who seems to thrive on chaos. He is a very sarcastic character who enjoys toying with the emotions of others and keeping things always in an air of mystery. There is an unsettling feeling to his always smiling and cheerful look that seems to hide a sociopathic monster. He is a difficult personality to discern that speaks in a way that makes others feel like he’s digging inside of their mind. He is also a master of discerning the reality of a person’s current emotional state, even being capable of seeing through the cold mask that Sosuke Aizen constantly holds up.

Number Seven: Toshiro Hitsugaya

Race: Soul

 “You’re being too lenient with an opponent you’ve only hit once. Haven’t you ever heard of following through?”

At number seven of our most popular Bleach characters is the prodigy Toshiro Hitsugaya!

Toshiro holds a maturity that exceeds a man of his age. Though the youngest of the captains, Toshiro holds an authoritative air and leads with an intolerant seriousness. He is intolerant of goofing off and does not stand for childish behavior. This creates an interesting mix of personalities with his lieutenant, Rangiku Matsumoto, who is the complete polar opposite with a carefree and free-spirited personality.

Number Six: Renji Abarai

Race: Soul

“We at this moment head into the decisive battle. Have faith that our blades will not shatter. Have faith that our hearts will not waiver. And even if our paths should diverge, we all share a heart of iron. Swear that even if the ground beneath us should be rent asunder we will live and return to this place again.”

Number six of our most popular Bleach characters is the cocky Renji Abarai!

Renji is a goofy and cocky character who loves to throw himself into a battle to prove his worth. He holds a strong morale code and will stand at nothing to protect those he cares for. He presents himself with a cocky “sure-of-himself” air when initially confronted, but when in the heat of combat shows a calculated combatant. He takes defeat very deeply and tends to fall into a depression as he reflects upon his failures. His goal is to one day become greater than his squad captain and prove himself to be a powerful Soul Reaper.

Number Five: Orihime Inoue

Race: Human

 “Maybe it’s impossible to feel exactly the same way as another person, but it’s possible for people to care about one another and to place their hearts as close together as they can manage. I’m sure that’s what it means to make your hearts as one.”

Coming in at number five of our most popular Bleach characters is the sweet and kind Orihime Inoue!

Orihime possesses a massive heart that does not falter even in the face of the greatest evil. She is not one to hold a grudge, and is willing to show kindness even when this kindness will not be returned. She can be considered a true light even in the greatest of darkness, and cares deeply for those she’s close to. But this sympathy and care goes to any who require the need of her assistance. She holds a bravery within her as well that not even death will make her falter and holds onto what she believes.

Number Four: Uryu Ishida

Race: Human

“I have not exterminated you so that you can relay a message to Aizen. Tell him the Quincy are here, and that in reality, it’s not the Shinigami he should fear, but rather the Quincy!”

At number four among the most popular Bleach characters is the Quincy Uryu Ishida!

Uryu is, first and foremost, a Quincy, and is proud to announce this fact when the opportunity arises. Though Quincy’s have an uneasy and aggressive relationship with Soul Reapers normally, his friendship with Ichigo bridges this gap…

Which is an ironic friendship as well when you learn the truth about Ichigo…

Uryu is generally a quiet personality, though in groups loves to try and be the cool guy. He is a master not only with the bow, but with a sewing needle as well, making clothing, in his eyes, way cooler and designing flashy outfits for himself. He is a man of justice who does not tolerate the ill-treatment of others. Also, at times, Uryu can be a bit melodramatic, which makes an interesting duality with his normally quiet and “cool” personality.

Number Three: Kisuke Urahara

Race: Soul

“Puh-Lease! I’m just a lowly-but-handsome merchant. How could I possibly perform Bankai?”

At number 3 of the most popular Bleach characters is everyone’s favorite shopkeeper: Kisuke Urhara!

Kisuke is generally seen as a simple and lackadaisical shop owner who deals in special wares for Soul Reapers. However, under this guise is a focused and diligent Soul Reaper who has gained immense experience through his life. He was once even a captain of Squad Twelve, as well as a member of the Stealth Force where he oversaw a special detention facility. He is a generally polite character, even with his enemies, but holds a sly sarcasm which can be seen hidden in the wording he uses. He is also a mentor to several characters during the series, giving them his vast knowledge and experience to help increase their capabilities and spur on further growth.

Number Two: Rukia Kuchiki

Rukia is an interesting mix of personalities. She generally holds herself in a noble and serious manner, as is expected of one in the noble family. Though adopted, she learned to adapt to her new family and life as a noblewoman. She has difficulty at times expressing herself, but possesses a deep passion and cares deeply for those close to her. She is also a master of manipulation and knows how to personify the necessary character required in many situations.

 “I’m not superman, so I can’t say anything big like I’ll protect everyone on earth. I’m not a modest guy who will say it’s enough if I can protect as many people as my two hands can handle either. I want to protect a mountain-load of people.”

At number one of the most popular Bleach characters is the grand protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki!

Ichigo is a short-tempered and impulsive young man, but it is backed by a huge heart. He is truly drawn to the thrill of battle, but does not fight simply for the fight. He cares deeply for those close to him, and jumps into the fray to save any innocents or those he is tasked to protect. He is constantly looking to power up and grow stronger to ensure the safety of those he must protect. Though his stubborn attitude can stunt his growth at times, his strong will and intellect always finds a way to push him forward and persevere.

I’d definitely trust this guy to have my back…
