Vampire Diaries is over, but the legacy lives on.
And, people love them some Ian Somerhalder…aka Damon.
People are consistently still asking for Ian Somerhalder’s workout routine and diet, and also searching for it – so I figured it was about time to give the SHJ Army what they want.
I also just finished up a winter course with the final week of the course revolving around Vampires, which was pretty awesome!
So this week will be the Damon and Elena duo, aka Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev.
But, we have also seen other vampire related celebrities like Wesley Snipes, Luke Evans, Jessica Biel, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Lautner, and Joe Manganiello – to name a few.
And, alright, maybe I should have ONLY named Vampires, but I included celebs who are also in shows or movies with them…
Ian Somerhalder Stats:
Height: 5’9
Weight: (approximate) 160 lbs.
Age: 39 years old
Somerhalder stands in actually in a much shorter range than the average on SHJ.
Not AS short as guys like Daniel Radcliffe and Kit Harington, but right there in that range with them and others like Zac Efron, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Holland and more.
The average is more or less 6’1-6’3 with celebs like Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Stephen Amell, Tyler Hoechlin, Adam Driver and many more.
The monsters on the site are even taller, being 6’4+, with guys like Dwayne Johnson, Joe Manganiello, The Mountain, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher.
But, don’t worry either way.
I make each and every routine ready to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Ian Somerhalder Diet and Nutrition
Ian Somerhalder’s diet and nutrition is more or less broken down into healthy decisions.
Which makes sense…
One thing to note is the fact that he strictly avoids alcohol and junk food. Â
Another thing he does is switch up his dietary restrictions based on his workout and goals.
This basically is in reference to whether he is looking to lean out and cut weight, or put on mass.
We do the same exact thing within The Academy and the Nutrition Classes we have (Spartan, Samurai, Monk, SuperHuman, Viking, Hunter Gatherer).
We opt for sustainability!
For that reason, much of the time I tend to recommend intermittent fasting, cyclical ketosis, and protein counting.
I combine them and make sure to change my caloric intake depending on my goals, which is kind of what we are talking about when referencing Somerhalder’s intake.
A final notes to know about Ian Somerhalder’s diet is that he makes sure to drink tons of water everyday. And by tons we’re talking about 3 or more liters each day.
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.

Ian Somerhalder Workout Routine Research
Ian Somerhalder is known to perform the workout that is referred to as “The Prisoner Workout”.
It’s similar to workouts we’ve seen from other celebs like Charlie Hunnam and Jason Statham in the sense that it utilizes bodyweight routines throughout its entirety.
We also have workouts like that in The Academy that we make sure to keep completely “In-Home”, even with our Nightwing (Minimalist) Path.
For this reason I’ll be listing some of the workouts here, but I’ll break them down by a full rep count later on like I normally would for any other workout routine we have at SHJ.
The Prisoner Workout consists of movements like push ups, pull ups, air squats, dips and burpees, and I would definitely suggest checking out my full article on how to get better at calisthenics in order to help you perform this routine.
