Both Okoye and Michonne are so freakin’ awesome.
And Danai Gurira portrays them so darn well.
We’re on a Black Panther roll lately. Having seen a Black Panther workout, a Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and even Winston Duke.
But, now it’s time for the lead lady before Infinity War comes out!
I really hope we get a sparring session or battle of some sort between Okoye and Black Widow somehow…
Danai Gurira Stats:
Height: 5’7
Weight: (approximate) 120 lbs.
Age: 40 years old
Forty years old and looking absolutely incredible!
Danai Gurira isn’t “tall” per se, but she is above the average height of 5’4-5’6 we see at SHJ.
She stands right there with ladies like Daisy Ridley, Lauren Cohan (a Walking Dead co-star), Morena Baccarin and Nina Dobrev.
And, we also have a taller range with women like Gwendoline Christie, Karen Gillan, Gal Gadot, Zendaya, Rihanna, and more.
The average includes women like Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie, Olivia Munn, Rachel McAdams, Sophia Bush, Alicia Vikander, and so many more.
The shorter range is also shown among celebrity heroes with ladies like Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Demi Lovato, Emilia Clarke, Julianne Hough, and a good handful of others.
But, either way, don’t worry.Â

Danai Gurira Diet and Nutrition
I was able to find a lot more about Danai Gurira’s training than I was for her diet and nutrition, but I still have some pretty useful information that I want to share.
I’ll start by saying she LOVES being healthy, fit and strong.
Which is something we can definitely get behind at SHJ.
A well balanced and healthy diet is definitely something that comes natural for her.
That being said, in an interview with US Magazine she tells us “25 Things About Her”, that I want to utilize here.
The first thing I find relevant is this:
I’ve been trying to give up added sugar. It’s just so painful.
So, even though she’s definitely health conscious, she still knows it’s okay to be human.
Sustainability is key, and it’s something we strive to promote in The Academy Nutrition Classes as well.
Some other fun facts relevant to her diet and nutrition are:
- My favorite dish to make is my famous “Fourth of July” lamb and goat-cheese burgers.
- I love a good, traditional English breakfast. Grilled tomato and all.
- I really don’t like BBQ, but Fox Bros. in Atlanta is ridiculously good.
- I don’t do coffee. Ever. It gives me the jitters.
A few of those are just for fun, but I think they’re definitely good information to have about the actress.

Danai Gurira Workout Routine Research
Like I said, Gurira really enjoys being healthy, fit and strong!
And, who doesn’t, right?
I want to start right back off with some of those 25 Things before breaking into some more awesome information I found.
- I live off of Jillian Michaels’ DVDs. She kicks my butt.
- If I could have one special power, it would be the ability to fly.
- I’m an avid swimmer. I used to compete as a kid and hated to lose.
I decided to sneak in one about what she would want her superhero power to be…
In her interview with SELF Mag she tells us even more for us to go off.
“I’ve always been a bit of a tough chick,” she says. “That’s what made me work for the part of Michonne.” She pushes herself to get stronger, faster and more flexible, so she can take on challenges without fear of injury or failure. “Taking care of my body, knowing I’ll never get another, is one of my top priorities,” says the 37-year-old, who grew up in Zimbabwe swimming, running track and playing tennis and field hockey. “I’m happiest when I feel strong,” she says. “And I do what I need to do to get there.”
She goes on to say:
There’s always enough time in the day to get in a 20-minute workout,” she says. To make it easier, she keeps practice swords in the trunk of her car, so she can keep in shape whenever and wherever she goes. “I’ve trained in my garage, my living room, in a pool and even an underground parking garage,” she says. “It never stops!”
And, to stay right on with the awesomeness we have to go off of:
She also keeps a mat, dumbbells and Jillian Michaels workout DVDs in her trailer, allowing her to make the most of any unexpected downtime on-set. “Her workouts make me feel stronger and faster, and they give me more endurance,” Gurira says, adding, “Jillian and Michonne would be a fantastic team. They’d definitely be on the same side!” When she has a little more free time and wants to feel more “open and loose,” she’ll hit the elliptical, throwing in crunches and squats here and there, or the pool, where she swims freestyle and breaststroke laps.
Cross training is the key to maintaining her form and functionality. “It’s part of feeling like I’m balanced,” she says. “I just listen to my body and do what I feel it wants to do.”

I love the fact that she brings her training swords in the trunk of her car with her. I feel like that’s something our Coach Derek would do for his training.

Danai Guriri Workout Routine
Training Volume:
5-7 days per week
Explanation:
Danai Guriri LOVES being strong and fit. She thinks there is always enough time for at least a 20 minute workout in the day. She also utilizes a number of different training types so it should be fun for you to be able to get in the workout like her! I’m going to give you a few days of training options to choose from and then you can put them together however you feel fit.
Workout Option Three should be utilized at least 2-3 days a week.

Danai Gurira has a vast array of different activities she likes to do to get a good amount of cardio in.
I’m going to list a few that you can utilize here:
- Swim Laps
- Tennis
- Hiking
- Elliptical
- Jog
This day should consist of 60-90 min of combined activity listed above.
Workout Option Four: Pilates and Fitness Tapes
Danai Gurira mentions that there’s always time to get in at least a 20 minute workout.
One of her go-to’s for getting in a workout is a Jillian Michaels DVD or a pilates class!
Feel free to utilize either of these options from time to time as well.
