Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s workout is a must have on SHJ.
Even though it might not be as intense as we’re used to, this article is something I’ve been wanting to touch on for a while.
And that’s not just because Jurnee is amazing and stunning…
You may recognize Jurnee Smollett-Bell from True Blood alongside studs like Joe Manganiello, Alexander Skarsgard and other celebrities who have landed on SHJ, and she’s also starred in The Great Debaters, Underground, and most recently: Lovecraft Country and Birds of Prey!
Now it’s time for us to get the rockin’ body Bell shows off as Black Canary.
Or at least attempt to!
Jurnee Smollett-Bell Stats:
Height: 5’6
Weight: (approximate) 127 lbs.
Age: 33 years old
Jurnee Smollet-Bell comes in right at the average height among women we’ve seen at SHJ.
An inch taller and she’d be in a different range, but she’s right there with the average.
Normally the average height we see for women is around 5’4-5’6 with ladies such as Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie, Olivia Munn, Alicia Vikander, Sophia Bush, Tatiana Maslany, Evangeline Lilly, and a ton of others.
But then there is also that taller range, and among the tallest (even taller than the 5’7-5’8), are ladies like Gwendoline Christie, Gal Gadot, and a few others – with Phoebe Tonkin, Gabrielle Union, Brie Larson, Nina Dobrev, Daisy Ridley, and so many more coming in around that 5’7-5’8 range.
And, let’s not forget the shorter ladies of SHJ like Ariana Grande, Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis, Emilia Clarke, Lucy Hale, Julianne Hough and a good handful of others.
But, either way, don’t worry.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell Diet and Nutrition
Jurnee Smollett-Bell is all about self care.
She tells New You:
“I don’t think we give ourselves approval to take care of ourselves – whatever that means,” says the talented actress. “It could be journaling, taking a bath, hiking or going on a vacation to Bali, whatever that means for you. We are in that generation to hustle and work so hard that we forget to stop, turn the cell phone off and tune into us – that’s kind of my mission this year.”
So you can probably already kind of start to see where I’m going with her diet based on her life values.
Bell does opt for healthy choices.
She just recently lost her pregnancy-baby-weight by making healthy decisions, but definitely nothing drastic or over the top.
Bell actually makes mention to women who inspired her post-pregnancy weight-loss like Zoe Saldana who had twins and looks better than ever.
Bell states:
“I admire so many women who say, ‘You know what? You don’t have to choose. You can live your truth in both areas of your life and be a whole person,'” she said. “I’ve grown up and seen so many women who have. Alfre Woodard is an example of someone. Look at Zoe Saldana, how she’s rocking the twins, you know, bringing them on the set.”
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell Workout Routine Research
We already know how Jurnee Smollett-Bell feels about self-care, and her workout routine and relexation routine falls into that same category.
The way she lives her life seems to come full circle and revolve around being happy and healthy.
For that reason, she also opts for training how she likes to, and choose sustainability in all areas of life.
In an interview with SELF, Bell shares a ton of useful information that will help us better build a routine for her.
Let’s start with what Bell tells SELF about a good night’s sleep:
While shooting the show on a Baton Rouge plantation, Jurnee admits it was tough to stick to a sleep schedule. “I don’t know if it was the content or what, but it’s hard to come home and just turn it off and sleep,” says Smollett. “I found myself turning on white noise to try to fall asleep and just making sure the room was pitch black.”
She continues this conversation and makes her way into talking about how she relaxes and unwinds at home:
After a long day, Jurnee unwinds with a long bath. Her bathroom is stocked with Dead Sea salts from Whole Foods in aromatherapy scents like lavender. “One thing I would advise: never soak in anything with mint because it stings in places.,” she warns. “I made that mistake one time. It was not fun.” OK, so I’ll be sticking to eucalyptus thanks. Jurnee completes the experience with ambiance: candles, music (think smooth jazz from Nancy Wilson), and a good book.
Can you kind of see a trend here?
Bell likes to relax, self-care, unwind, be in the moment, meditate, etc.
It’s all down the same path.
For a final piece of the puzzle before we break into the workout routine that ties it all together, Bell tells SELF about staying grounded with journaling and mediation:
Jurnee has been journaling since she was a child, and it’s a hobby she’s held on to. “My mom bought me an Anne of Green Gables journal. And I just remember thinking it was so cool and I could write anything in it,” she says. To this day, she still turns to blank pages to find clarity, along with regular meditation and prayer. And of course, she takes a peek back into the past every once in a while.
I definitely fall off in some of these areas myself, but the fact that Bell can literally find the time for so much self care, in so many different areas and with so many different techniques, leads me to re-evaluate my own regime.
Here’s more on Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s workout routine, though:
From yoga to plyometrics, Jurnee has a very diverse workout regimen. She even loves to take a dance class here and there (I see you with the Beyoncé moves). However, her options were limited while on the Underground set, so she turned to a more sporadic routine. “If I have a jump rope and a resistance band, I can work out anywhere,” she says. “Even without a jump rope. If you do 200 jumping jacks, then drop and do some crunches, and then do some squats, you’re good.”
To prepare for her most recent role, she relied on interval training because in Underground she does all her own stunts. “This was the most physically challenging role I’ve ever done in my life because on the Underground Railroad you were running,” she says. “Being one of the only females in the pack, I was very competitive with the boys. There was no way they were going to run faster than me!”
