So we’ve had quite the handful of requests for Ellen Pompeo’s workout and diet on SHJ.
And here we are!
You know, it only took about 16 Seasons of Grey’s Anatomy to finally land her a spot!
Joking.
Although, truthfully, she’s been deserving since day one and we just happened to flood our Workout Database with women who were out here playing superhero and character roles, while we let some of the amazing female celebs in TV shows myself (Mike), Ryan and Brandon (younger brothers who help run SHJ), normally wouldn’t watch.
But not more! Thankfully we have our Workout Request and Suggestion bin to help us out.
Which I’m sure you may be going to utilize now. So while you do that we can get into the rest of the article….assuming you know how to open a new tab without leaving this one.
Psst. Control-click it.
Ellen Pompeo Stats:
Height: 5’7
Weight: (approximate) 126 lbs.
Age: 50 years old
Ellen Pompeo is 50 years old and looks stunning.
She’s also above average height compared to the women we’ve seen at SHJ, although she falls in a range we’ve been seeing more and more women in.
Normally the average height we see for women is around 5’4-5’6 with ladies such as Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie, Olivia Munn, Alicia Vikander, Sophia Bush, Tatiana Maslany, Evangeline Lilly, and a ton of others.
But then there is also that taller range, and among the tallest (even taller than the 5’7-5’8), are ladies like Gwendoline Christie, Gal Gadot, and a few others – with Phoebe Tonkin, Gabrielle Union, Brie Larson, Nina Dobrev, Daisy Ridley, and so many more coming in around that 5’7-5’8 range.
And, let’s not forget the shorter ladies of SHJ like Ariana Grande, Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis, Emilia Clarke, Lucy Hale, Julianne Hough and a good handful of others.
But, either way, don’t worry.
I write these routines for anyone and everyone.

Ellen Pompeo Diet and Nutrition
Pompeo has shared a handful of information about her nutrition over the years.
Like back in 2010 when she shared some insight to SELF Mag about her “On The Go” healthy diet:
“On Sundays, I pre-make everything for salads. I boil a dozen eggs and parboil beets. I chop lettuce, cilantro, scallions and parsley and put it all in ziplock bags. During the week, I just grab handfuls, add dressing, dump in a can of beans, some goat cheese, and I’m ready to go.”
And, at the time, they also share some information about the diet she was following:
Furthermore, Ellen Pompeo follows an “Energy Diet” which focuses on six key foods. Ellen’s diet includes bananas, which are filling and a great source of fiber, and mangoes, which have 75% of your daily vitamin C requirement in one cup. Her diet also includes garbanzo beans and eggs for protein. Finally, the Grey’s Anatomy star eats sardines and almonds for their heart-healthy nutrients and vitamins. Check out this article about the health benefits of sardines!
As of 2018 Pompeo, and her entire family, apparently switched it all over to vegan!’
Pompeo told People’s Magazine:
“I just went for my yearly appointment a couple of weeks ago and [Dr. Kristi Funk] told me about her book,”
She continued by saying:
“Since then my whole family has gone completely vegan. [Dr. Funk] told me she turned her three kids completely vegan and I came home from my appointment with her where she basically gave me [the information] … and I said, ‘That’s it, we’re all vegan.’”
Even her husband made the swap with her, Pompeo describes the family swapping as:
“It’s super fun,” she said. Pompeo’s husband, Chris Ivery, and children Stella Luna (8), Sienna May (3), and Eli Christopher (1), have made a smooth transition to the diet. “I don’t think it’s tricky at all — it’s actually easier because meat you have to cook it before it goes bad. Grains and lentils and rice and beans, everything’s in the pantry already. You just have to get vegetables, but vegetables stay good for a week — and I think we all feel better.” Pompeo shared that Stella did miss bacon but was open to a plant-based version.
Hey, if you find it fun and the transition is super-sustainable for you, then that’s the best thing that you can do!
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.

Ellen Pompeo Workout Routine Research
Pompeo doesn’t simply eat healthy, she also trains consistently as well!
She told People Magazine:
“I have to say I’ve always been a little [bit] obsessed with working out and eating right. I’ve been on this track for a while which is why I was passionate about this campaign,” she says. “I want to teach my daughter the importance of exercising and eating healthy as she grows up.”
Pompeo can generally be found getting active via hiking, running, and other forms of activity that can be taken outside.
She also loves to dance!
Her trainer is Nicole Winhoffer, who follows a style of training that is most similar to Pilates and cross-training; two things that Pompeo also utilizes!
I talk about this a lot in my book Superhuman Secrets.
There are A LOT of women who prioritize high level activity options (cardio options) and classes, and then their actual training comes secondary.
Oh, and the best part? It works GREAT.
Pompeo is more health-first than aesthetics and physique, though.
Post-pregnancy weight gain she explains:
“I went up a pants size during my pregnancy,” Ellen Pompeo told Self, not guilty at all about her pregnancy weight gain. “I was in a size 25 jeans and I went up to a 26. I gained 26 pounds. And now, after the baby, I weigh 10 pounds more than I ever have. I love it, because everyone always told me I was too skinny before, and I thought, Oh, God, what if there are 14-year-olds who think I’m not eating because I’m very concerned about weight loss, and then they don’t eat? Do I have a responsibility? But really, I don’t care if people think I’m too skinny. This is my body. If they don’t like it, screw it. [My weight] doesn’t matter to me. I have a healthy baby.”
So expect to be getting outdoors and getting active, but don’t expect to see any crazy weight training!
Get ready.

Ellen Pompeo Workout Routine
Training Volume:
3-5+ days per week
Explanation:
Pompeo’s routine is going to consist of being active and healthy. On days you aren’t training you’re going to want to still work on getting your 10,000 steps in (hence the 3-5+ days per week). This will also revolve around me giving you a variety of resources to utilize from the site, but also involve fitness classes very similar to Pompeo’s style.
Bonus Note:
If you aren’t able to make it into classes or find the style of training that best fits Pompeo’s, the closest thing we have is our SHJ Legacy Program, which can be done with or without weight and has a daily workout routine that changes and scaled every single day for each individual.
Want To Upgrade This Workout?
The Superhero Academy now comes with an Upgrade Your Workout Tool that allows Academy members to turn any SHJ workout into a 4-8 week fully planned regime detailing exact weights to lift and including reverse & tradition pyramid training, straight sets, super sets, progressive overload and more.
