The ladies of The SHJ Army were dying for this one.
And now we’ll finally have our Tracee Ellis Ross workout and diet
Surprisingly enough, she’ll also be our first Black-ish celeb to hit the site as well; although if this one goes well I think we’ll need to have Yara Shahidi’s workout and diet next!
Tracee Ellis Ross is the star of TV Show Black-ish, spin off Mixed-Ish, and starred in the show “Girlfriends” from 2000-2008!
And now she’s also starring in the new movie The High Note!
But, we’re here to discuss just how Ross stays in killer shape!
Tracee Ellis Ross Stats:
Height: 5’7
Weight: (approximate) 126 lbs.
Age: 47 years old
Tracee Ellis Ross is 47 years old (at the time of writing this, of course), and ROCKIN’ it.
She’s just above the “average” height range we’ve seen among women at SHJ, and looking incredible.
Normally the average height we see for women is around 5’4-5’6 with ladies such as Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie, Olivia Munn, Alicia Vikander, Sophia Bush, Tatiana Maslany, Evangeline Lilly, and a ton of others.
But then there is also that taller range, and among the tallest (even taller than the 5’7-5’8), are ladies like Gwendoline Christie, Gal Gadot, and a few others – with Phoebe Tonkin, Gabrielle Union, Brie Larson, Nina Dobrev, Daisy Ridley, and so many more coming in around that 5’7-5’8 range.
And, let’s not forget the shorter ladies of SHJ like Ariana Grande, Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis, Emilia Clarke, Lucy Hale, Julianne Hough and a good handful of others.
But, either way, don’t worry.
I write these routines for anyone and everyone.

Tracee Ellis Ross Diet and Nutrition
When you’re over 45 years old and look as good as Tracee Ellis Ross there’s going to be a lot of women out there that want to know what you’re up to.
Which is a good thing for us, because that means there’s a lot of sources out there ready to share information we can use.
People Magazine reported that Ross makes it a point to drink 4 liters of water a day.
She also shared a sample daily meal plan with them as well:
Hydration
4 liters of waterBreakfast
Special K cereal with almond milkPost-Workout Snack
Berry Power protein drink from Erewhon (contains almond milk, bananas, blueberries, dates and Vega protein powder)Lunch
Hard-boiled egg with quinoa (seasoned with olive oil, salt and pepper) and sautéed zucchini mixed with crushed Brazil nutsSnack
Pink Lady apple and peanut butterSnack
Avocado toast (with lemon, crushed red pepper and salt on Udi’s bread)Dinner
Broiled steak with olive oil, salt, pepper and oregano, and a side salad of arugula with apples, onions, olive oil and lemonSnack
Boulder Canyon potato chips and olives
And Women’s Health tells us about Ross’ dietary rule(s):
Her food has to pass two tests: “Not only taste good in my mouth, but it also has to feel good in my stomach,” she said. “So a lot of foods that are good in the mouth, 10 minutes later? I’m cursing myself.”
And, to wrap it up for her nutrition, PopSugar shares a bunch of information as well:
“I really love beautiful food” but “my schedule in the last three years since Black-ish started has not allowed me the space to cook, which is not great.” Because she can’t cook for herself often, it’s important that she sticks to her healthy lifestyle.
She says she never deprives herself (“I eat chocolate if I want chocolate”), and she loves potato chips and microwave popcorn (particularly “Boulder Canyon gluten-free chips . . . they’re fantastic”), but she has some pretty basic rules and said, “I eat incredibly healthy.” What does that mean to Tracee? “I don’t really eat any dairy, sugar, or gluten.”
That said, she does have her “vice” — salty foods. “I’m a big salty person; I love olives, I love potato chips, I love French fries. I eat a lot of all the other things that I eat [besides dairy, sugar, and gluten]. I am not somebody who will sit down and eat a small bag of potato chips . . . I eat the whole bag!” We’re really digging this balance she’s got goin’ on.
As you can see, one of the biggest parts of this “diet” is the fact that Ross refuses to deprive herself of the food she loves.
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.Â
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.

Tracee Ellis Ross Workout Routine Research
Even though it may seem like Ross eats whatever she wants, she does so with a moderation that, paired with her intense workout routine, is enough to have her showing off her incredible physique.
And, while I’ll tell you that you absolutely cannot out-train your diet, I will also tell you that added moderation will allow you to live like Ross.
That being said: the first place you should go to see some of Tracee Ellis Ross’ workout routine training is her own personal Instagram account.
She shares videos and pictures of her regime in an attempt to inspire women all over the world to get active as well; and I think she’s doing a helluva good job.
Ross does a bunch of resistance and stability training, and one thing she is a big advocate of is The Tracey Anderson Method!
We’ve seen a handful of other incredible female celebrities work with Tracey Anderson as well; and Ross posts videos with Tracey, and even some of her live-streamed classes (although, of herself doing pieces of them).
She tells Health this about her weekly training:
How many days a week do you usually work out?
It’s three days a week on a regular basis, sometimes four. Sometimes I take a little break, but the truth is, I feel the best when I work out. I feel very strong. I didn’t wake up like this. At 22, I woke up like that. At 44, I work really hard for this! I am on TV, and I don’t want to lie to anybody. I’m not at my skinniest, I’m not at my fattest, but I live my life. This is my body. Health and the functionality of my body are more important than what it looks like.
Ross also has posted herself training at “Heart and Hustle” which is an exclusive personal training studio in Los Angelos, where she trains with resistance training and weights.
But, for the most part, it seems like Ross uses calisthenics, dance, high intensity, and training that is similar to Tracey Anderson’s style!
Another thing I want to add before we wrap it up and build a routine for Ross is the fact that she prioritizes her sleep; which is something we know as vital to our recovery and success.
She tells Vibe:
“We’ve been working 15 hours on [Black-ish] and our call time is 6 a.m. but I get excited if I have a 7:30, 8 a.m. call time ’cause I work out at 5:30 or 6. I can’t get it in everyday because when you’re over 40 — I’m 42 — you gotta get your sleep.”
And she tells Health:
“The biggest thing is I get my sleep,” she told Health. “Sometimes it’s not eight hours, but my sleep is sacred to me.”
So, ladies, don’t forget to sleep!
It’ll help with stress, recovery, mood, and more.
