The SHJ Army demands a Guts Workout and I’m inclined to agree that’s is necessary right now!
If that doesn’t make sense for you right away, I’ll go ahead and spoil it because that means you haven’t read our last two anime inspired workouts from this week.
We’re slowly closing in on having our listicle: The Most Powerful Anime Characters of All Time, and Guts just may make the list depending on how long I decide to make it.
Either way, he definitely deserves a spot in our Anime Workouts Database sooner rather than later, so I decided to prioritize it before the listicle goes live.
I’m also super intrigued to write this one considering Guts doesn’t actually have any powers….but more on that below!
Guts Stats:
Real Name: Guts
Height: 6’8
Weight: 253 lbs.
Anime: Berserk
Powers: No
Guts is HUGE.
Especially among the anime characters we’ve seen, but even in general, he comes in the same height as Bane!
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Guts Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero, unless I mentioned differently (for example someone like Hulk may get something specifically different)**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Guts Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To get us started we’re going to be pulling from Guts Berserk Wiki Fandom page, leading with a bit of a bio they give us for him:
Guts, renowned as the “Black Swordsman“, is a former mercenary and branded wanderer who travels the world in a constant internal struggle between pursuing his own ends and protecting those dear to him.
At one time driven solely by his will to survive, Guts finds purpose in life upon joining the Band of the Falcon, greatly helping in the faction’s storied successes during the Hundred-Year War as captain of the band’s raiders. He eventually becomes dissatisfied with clinging on to Griffith’s dream, and departs from the band in pursuit of his own. Following the horrors of the Eclipse prompted by Griffith, Guts embarks on a two-year war against the God Hand and apostles, becoming increasingly embittered on his one-track quest for retribution. He in time realizes protecting his regressed lover is more important to him, as well as something he cannot do alone, and thus seemingly abandons his quest for revenge while fostering camaraderie with his new companions.
But what is most intriguing to me about Guts is the fact that he’s not actually overpowered due to some incredible powers he was born with.
Here’s how his Wiki describes it:
- Inhuman Physicality: Threw years of training, Guts has shown to have impressive physicality that is beyond that of a human. He is able to lift and carry his Dragon Slayer, which weighs about 400lbs, with ease and able to shrug of punishments no other humans can survive.
- Master Swordsmen: Considered by the Counts as the greatest swordsmen alive, his swordsmanship is able to rival the likes of Griffith and Nosferatu Zodd. During the eclipse, he is able to kill many demons with just a simple blunt weapon.
- Incredible Will: Of course, Guts has incredible willpower to allow him to survive even the harshest thing live throws at him. His will is incredible large to the point where he can cast away evil spirits trying to possess him.
Emphasis on the fact that it took him years of training to become Inhuman and here at SHJ our focus is to become Superhuman.
We won’t really be focusing in on swordsmanship, although that’s one of his main abilities and traits, but the strength gain we work on and agility with it will benefit any of you looking to really unleash your inner Guts.
As for focusing in on peak human conditioning we’ll have to involve strength, agility, endurance and all around superhuman type abilities.
For this we’ll have a lot of volume, so get ready.

How exactly should the circuits be performed? Should one attempt the exercise until failure ,or stay on the same exercise until the desired rep count is met, before moving on?
The supersets are performed similar to circuits but there is a break between each round. They’re really “Giant Sets” for proper terminology. You complete all the programmed reps of each workout A, B, C and D and then break between the round, and then repeat that 2 more times for a total of 3 sets.
Can you guys make a Casca inspired workout? 🙂
Sure ! Shoot a request in with the form found in the footer of the site 🙂
I’ve been doing calisthenics all my life and am finally going to look at weight training. Since I’ve practically never lifted a weight like this, how would I scale the weight I use? Should I test my maximum and go down from there to see what I can do decent reps with?
You can test your max range if you’d like and that will be helpful to get a gauge of where you’re at with lifts, but really when you go into Traditional Pyramid Training you’re going to be shooting to increase the weight after each set anyways, with warm up sets on your compound lifts – so you’re naturally be lifting heavier and closer to your individual range.
