Genkai is like the Master Roshi of Yu Yu Hakusho.
And we all know how much I love Master Roshi…I even sign my signing off tag as him/Nick Fury most of the time.
We’ve seen a couple other characters from Yu Yu Hakusho thus far at SHJ, but I definitely can’t say it is one of the most popular anime here being that it’s definitely not flooding our Anime Workouts Database like some of the others.
That being said, Genkai is an important character to have here for multiple reasons.
The first reason is that she just made our list of The Most Powerful Female Anime Characters of All Time and therefore deserves this spot here among the rest of our awesome characters.
The second reason is so far we’ve had our Yusuke Urameshi Inspired Workout and our Hiei Inspired Workout so if we’re going to continue into characters like Kazuma for example, it’s only right we have the master!
Genkai Stats:
Real Name: Genkai
Height: 4’3
Weight: N/A
Anime: Yu Yu Hakusho
Powers: Yes
Genkai is extremely short. Much shorter than almost any anime character we’ve seen thus far.
We’ve had a few come in recently that have been super short as well, but she is definitely below average and shown as such throughout the series.
Supergirl and Erza Scarlet were our shortest at 5’5 before Wasp came in at 5’4 and Kale, Anna and Nina Williams matching her there. BUT, now we have Caulifla at 4’8 and Sailor Moon at 4’11! Katana is just behind her at 5’2.
We had Wonder Woman come in standing 6’0 tall, Mockingbird and Hawkgirl at 5’9, Mystique, Miss Martian, and Sonya Blade at 5’10, and Storm 5’11.
But the average height for female celebrities on the site is generally more-so ranging from 5’4-5’6 – and our Black Widow is just above that at 5’7 with Spider-Gwen, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy at 5’8.
And, the tallest we’d seen before She-Hulk was Starfire at 6’4!
But don’t worry, either way.
Not only are these routines for all shapes and sizes – they also work for both men and women – regardless of the gender of the hero.

Genkai Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Genkai Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To get us started with our Genkai research I want to discuss a bit more about who we’re actually working with for this one. For that I’ll be pulling right from her Wiki Fandom page.
To start us off they give us an extremely short bio:
Genkai was the master of the spirit detective Yusuke Urameshi and Kazuma Kuwabara.
To get a bit more of a perspective before we jump directly into her overall powers and abilities, they do share this for her Spirit Detective Saga section:
Genkai holds the Disciple Selection Trials (referred to as the Genkai Tournament in the anime) to determine who she will select to be the rightful heir to her powers, should she die: an apprentice whom she will train, bestowing upon him or her the unfathomable knowledge of the Spirit Wave.
Moving into her powers and abilities we get a lot more.
They have multiple sections breaking it down and even go into some fighting styles and other powers.
Here’s a section about her overall powers and abilities to give us an initial idea:
In her prime, it can be argued that Genkai was above B Class. She has consistently been noted to be one of the most powerful characters in the series and Yusuke would not be half as powerful if it were not for her training and Spirit inheritance. However, as a result of her aging, Genkai has grown weaker, albeit while still remaining much more powerful than the average human. In battle, Genkai possesses a great amount of fighting experience, thus shaping her into a keen minded fighter and master tactician. She was the first to explain to Yusuke on the loss of his Spirit Gun and why his energy had been so slow to return, as well as notice that Kuwabara and Yusuke’s energy levels were too low to visualize the attacks of the Dr Ichigaki team. Her skills and battle prowess were even praised by Toguro, who claimed that she makes all tactics useless against her.
The line I want to focus in on the most here is this one:
She has consistently been noted to be one of the most powerful characters in the series and Yusuke would not be half as powerful if it were not for her training and Spirit inheritance.
This will be the main basis of our training research, but I will share a bit more just to give us a bit more background into such an awesome character.
Her fighting style “Spirit Wave” is broken down as such:
Spirit Wave: Genkai’s personal fighting style, coveted by humans and demons alike. It works by using one’s body as a center for spirit energy (instead of only one’s finger like in the Spirit Gun), in a sense, making your whole body a weapon. Doing so returns your body to the time it was at its peak. In Genkai’s case, her early twenties. According to Genkai, the Spirit Wave also granted numerous abilities including healing wounds, purification, and even unleashing a massive blast of Spirit Energy powerful enough to blast apart mountains
I’m not going to be teaching you this, or any of the awesome powers that come with it, but it does help give us more of an idea of how powerful she is and why we need to push into her strength level more and more.
To build her overall strong but petite physique and also work around her powers that come from being agile and fighting we’re going to work with calisthenics and mix them with high intensity interval circuits and endurance work like we would for a fighter.
Think you can handle it?

Genkai Workout Routine
Training Volume:
5 days per week
