It is time to finally get our very first Bungo Stray Dogs character here at SHJ.
I have a feeling he won’t be the last, but Osamu Dazai is coming in as our first.
Dazai is the most popular character among the anime and manga and, naturally, received the most requests for a workout to be added within our Anime Workouts Database.
He’s not massively strong, and his powers don’t necessarily help us build a workout routine, but Dazai does have some abilities that will make this one fun; along with the fact that many of you are actually shooting for the lean and slim physique that he sports.
For this one, considering what we know even before getting to our research section, we’ll be building this one out with bodyweight training and adding Dazai to our calisthenics workouts.
Osamu Dazai Stats:
Real Name: Osamu Dazai
Height: 5’11
Weight: 147 lbs.
Anime: Bungo Stray Dogs
Powers: Yes
Dazai is actually fairly tall compared to male anime characters we’ve seen, but his 147 pounds is pretty light for his height.
What that means is we’ll be really looking to slim down for this one and just tone up a bit and build strength.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Osamu Dazai Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Osamu Dazai Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To learn more about Dazai we’ll be pulling right from his Wiki Fandom page starting with his bio section here:
Osamu Dazai is a member of the Armed Detective Agency and former executive of the underworld organization, the Port Mafia. He has the Ability named No Longer Human.
As I mentioned earlier, his ability “No Longer Human”, which we’ll break down a bit more below, doesn’t really help us out with a workout routine build, but the fact that he is a member of the Armed Detective Agency does have some weight to it.
When we move into his abilities we can start by breaking down his No Longer Human ability here:
No Longer Human, literally “Human Disqualification”) allows Dazai to nullify others’ abilities on contact. It relies on skin contact and is always active. As such, he can nullify any ability even while restrained as soon as it touches him.
While it’s an awesome ability, it isn’t something we can train around.
When we continue on into his abilities they list some things that really make Dazai a strong character:
- Genius Level Intellect
- Negotiation Skills
- Dexterity
- Heart Rate Manipulation
But, what we’re going to be focusing on, other than his aesthetic of course, is his physical prowess.
Here’s what they tell us about it:
Physical Prowess: Dazai had fair-to-middling hand-to-hand skills among the Mafia as Chūya recalled, which his nullification ability made up for. Dazai was able to briefly hold his own against Chūya, the most physically gifted in the Mafia, by predicting and defending against his moves and timing which he had memorized, though he got backed up on the wall soon after. Dazai was also able to fend against a big man by utilizing his resources around him, albeit being overwhelmed later on.
As we can tell Dazai holds his own with a combination of his No Longer Human ability and intellegence level; but isn’t extremely strong or fast or any of the overwhelming overpowered abilities we are used to seeing from a lot of our anime characters.
That said, we’ll be given an opportunity to build another beginner workout!
That means the goals for our Osamu Dazai Inspired Workout are:
- Dazai’s Lean and Slim Physique
- Dazai’s Moderate Level of Strength and Speed
- Dazai’s Hand to Hand Combat Body Control
As I mentioned earlier this one will be calisthenics training, which will actually be perfect for accomplishing our goals.
You can scale down if you need, but this one will be a basic and beginner oriented workout that should allow you to jump right in with no changes.
