There have been multiple different Blue Beetles to date, but for this one we’re going to be talking about the third: Jaime Reyes!
We had tons of requests for Blue Beetle with the new DC Comics movie, and a good majority of you made sure to mention that you specifically want Jaime when this one hits the site.
That said, this one is going to be a bit different, but definitely fun.
We haven’t had a new character join our DC Comics Workouts in a bit – so it’s always fun to get some new faces in there considering how much our Superhero Workouts grew at the start.
Blue Beetle Stats:
Real Name: Jaime Reyes
Height: 5’8
Weight: 145 lbs.
Comic: DC Comics
Powers: Yes
Jaime comes in below average height among our male superheroes, though he’d be considered average if we compared him to the male characters within our Anime Workouts Database.
At 145 pounds he actually has a decent amount of muscle for his height, with the weight and height distribution on other characters being far more spread in some other cases.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Blue Beetle Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Blue Beetle Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To learn more about Blue Beetle we’ll be pulling right from his Wiki Fandom page, starting with an extremely brief bio section they share with us here:
Jaime Reyes was the third Blue Beetle, and a member of the Teen Titans.
This doesn’t tell us much at all, but I promise we’re going to be pulling a lot more.
One thing I do want to make mention to as well is the fact that we’re going to also be training around Jaime Reyes’ aesthetic; which is slim, lean and toned. He does have muscle, but he’s more agile and defined with a more nimble aesthetic.
From there we can get some background on Jaime Reyes’ Blue Beetle:
Jaime Reyes was a relatively normal high school student from El Paso, Texas. His father ran a garage, his mother was a paramedic, and his little sister was a brat. Jaime hung out with his two best friends Brenda and Paco, the mediator between the hard-working Brenda and the laid-back Paco. By both Brenda and Paco’s accounts, he was a good friend, the kind of person who could let them be themselves, and who could always make things better. Jaime aimed to help his father out at the garage, but Alberto turned him down, not wanting to see his son grow up too fast.
Everything fell apart with the onset of the Infinite Crisis.
Some while before, Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle, had come into possession of the Blue Beetle Scarab, the artifact which had given Dan Garrett, the first Blue Beetle, his powers. The Scarab had been presumed destroyed early in Ted’s superhero career, but it was discovered intact in a pyramid in the Middle East. Ted lost the Scarab on a visit to the Rock of Eternity, home of the wizard Shazam. Shortly afterwards, he met his death at the hands of Maxwell Lord, Black King of Checkmate.
The Rock of Eternity was later destroyed in mystical battle between Shazam and the Spectre, its contents blasted across the world. The Blue Beetle Scarab came down in El Paso, fire and portent in its wake.
Jaime discovered the Scarab on the way home from school with Paco and Brenda, half-buried in a disused lot. He took it home, curious as to what it might be. That night, the Scarab came alive, and grafted itself to the base of Jaime’s spine, inducing strange dreams in Jaime.
While we don’t always include a background section like this for our characters, I thought it was a fun way to specifically discuss Jaime Reyes as the Blue Beetle.
From there we can go on to discuss some of Jaime Reyes’ powers and abilities that come from him being the Blue Beetle.
Let’s start with how the Blue Beetle Scarab effects him and break down some of the powers that come with it after:
Blue Beetle Scarab: Presently bonded to Jaime’s spine, this symbiosis gives Jaime access to the Scarab’s powers whenever he chooses. The Scarab can, and will, use its powers of its own accord; Jaime, however, can override the Scarab if need be. Should Jaime fall prey to a mind-altering power, the Scarab will take control of the armor.
We unfortunately do not have a Blue Beetle Scarab to bond with, but we do still need to factor in the rest of Jaime’s abilities.
Here are some more they make mention to:
- Superhuman Durability
- Superhuman Strength
- Superhuman Speed
- Flight
- Weaponry
And the list actually goes on through some more – but these are some that we’ll be working around – with the exception of flight and weaponry.
That means the goals for our Blue Beetle Inspired Workout are:
- Jaime Reyes’ Slim and Lean Muscular Aesthetic
- Jaime Reyes’ Superhuman Strength and Speed
- Jaime Reyes’ Agility and Nimbleness (Maneuverability)
While he does have superhuman strength and speed, our training is going to be set around building this while also building his specific aesthetic – which leans towards slim, lean and toned – as I’ve mentioned throughout this article.
For that reason we’re going to be sticking to bodyweight training and putting this one inside our calisthenics workouts for Jaime Reyes to reach the masses inside of our SHJ Army.
This one should be good for all levels with a bit of scaling, but if you’re a super beginner and want to start somewhere else before leveling up to this one the best options would be the Beginner Ninja Workout or the Beginner Speedster Workout – but starting with any of our Beginner Workouts is a good idea.

Blue Beetle Workout Routine
Training Volume:
3-5 days per week
Explanation:
For Jaime Reyes’ Blue Beetle we’re going to be using a framework we’ve used for some fighters like Vasco and Hobin Yoo, but I’ll be making some changes to it to make it more inline with our specific goals – and less that of a fighter. You’ll have 3 days a week of calisthenics full body training, one day devoted to hero endurance, and a final day that is our Teen Titans Circuit Test you can complete weekly, biweekly or monthly.
Want To Upgrade This Workout?
The Superhero Academy now comes with an Upgrade Your Workout Tool that allows Academy members to turn any SHJ workout into a 4-8 week fully planned regime detailing exact weights to lift and including reverse & traditional pyramid training, straight sets, super sets, progressive overload and more.
