We’ve had the God of Thunder on the site already (Thor), but now it’s time for The Lightning God to join the rest of our Kengan Ashura Inspired Workouts.
With Season Two airing on Netflix we’re actually getting two new character workouts from Kengan Ashura to hype it up a bit, one being a new variation to our original Tokita Ohma Workout, and now Mikazuchi Rei.
We actually have a full database of them and our Unofficial Kengan Ashura Workout Booklet, but I have been anxiously awaiting the right moment to be able to bring Rei into the mix, and the time has finally come.
To make it that much more exciting, I’ll also be building this one out around bodyweight training, bringing him right into our calisthenics workouts for all the bodyweight members of The SHJ Army.
Mikazuchi Rei Stats:
Real Name: Mikazuchi Rei
Height: 5’7
Weight: 170 lbs.
Anime: Kengan Ashura
Powers: No
Mikazuchi Rei is actually fairly short, coming in below average if compared to all our male characters, though right around average among all male anime characters.
That said, he’s nearly a foot off being considered a behemoth among the characters in our Anime Workouts Database.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Mikazuchi Rei Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Mikazuchi Rei Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
We know Mikazuchi Rei is absolutely shredded, but I do want to pull some more background information on his overall character to learn a bit more about how we’ll be building this one out, starting with his bio section from his Wiki Fandom page here:
Mikazuchi Rei, also known as The Lightning God, is an assassin from the Mikazuchi Clan and the current master of the Raishin Style. During the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, he represented the Gold Pleasure Group as their affiliated fighter; he was one of three assassins in the tournament.
This doesn’t tell us a ton of information, but just knowing we’re working around an assassin tells us enough to get started.
I’ll skip right passed his appearance section considering it’s pretty obvious what we’re working around there with Rei coming in with one of the best aesthetics in the entire series.
From there we can move right on into his powers and abilities section that starts with a long bit here:
Mikazuchi Rei is a master of the Raishin Style, and is arguably the fastest fighter in the tournament in both movement and striking speed. In addition to his immense physical speed, Rei has remarkable precision in his attacks. In his first Kengan match fight against Hong Xiao-Hu, he was able to tear off five of the man’s fingernails in a split-second. During his match against Nezu Masami in the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, he broke Hassad’s record of 2 seconds for shortest Kengan match; his new record is simply “immeasurable”. However, his over-reliance on speed means that opponents that he cannot defeat with speed alone, whether due to incredible defense and resilience or the ability to cope with his speed, give him a hard time. Kuroki Gensai also noted that Rei’s speed was inferior to his late father’s speed. However, when Rei combined his Raishin Style autosuggestion with Kurayoshi Rino’s suggestion, he was able to unlock power beyond the limits of his physical capabilities; in this state, Rei was able to move so quickly that not even the fighters could perceive his movements. In addition to his great speed, Rei also has impressive endurance, able to continue fighting even after pushing his body far past its limits.
Two years after the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, Rei trained with the Wu Clan in China to learn their techniques and trained with Hatsumi Sen while swapping techniques with him.
This tells us a lot more about what we’re dealing with…and it’s a lot!
They also tell us a small section on his Raishin Style that I think is fun and relevant enough to include in our research:
The style is a mysterious assassination fist passed down through the Mikazuchi Clan for 1200 years.
I think the things we’ll specifically be looking to accomplish for this one are actually pretty clear.
The goals for our Mikazuchi Rei Inspired Workout are going to be:
- Mikazuchi Rei’s Shredded Muscular Physique
- Mikazuchi Rei’s Incredible Speed and Endurance
- Mikazuchi Rei’s Assassin Mobility and Strength
We’ll also be prioritizing these things in that order and looking to accomplish them with a very intense calisthenics regime.
That means if you’re a beginner (or even intermediate and feel intimidated by the volume of this one) you will likely want to start with one of our Beginner Workouts before leveling up to this one.
I knew before I even started writing this one exactly how we were going to be looking to accomplish it because I have been excited to add him to our database for a while now – so I also knew going in that we might need an alternative for beginners – and I personally think the Beginner Ninja Workout is going to be your best bet.
