We already saw two ATLA characters this week and I’ve been trying to keep it to that, but this week we’re going on a little spree and adding another and then following it up with a fun listicle.
You guys love the Avatar: The Last Airbender Inspired Workouts, so there’s no reason to not keep them coming.
Plus, Bumi is one of my favorite characters of the series, so I’m excited to finally get him up here at SHJ and joining my REAL favorite character: Iroh.
Both of them will make our new list of the best Avatar characters of all time and also be part of our Avatar Workout Placement Quiz that helps you guys find the best workout specifically for you!
The other part I love about ATLA is that we almost always keep them to calisthenics training which allows us to constantly build out our calisthenics workouts for you guys as well.
Bumi Stats:
Real Name: Bumi
Height: N/A
Weight: N/a
Anime: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Powers: Yes
No one really has a great guesstimate at Bumi’s height for us.
Normally with our ATLA characters I try to utilize fan guesses to place them around other characters the best we can, but Bumi is kind of all over the place.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Bumi Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Bumi Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
Bumi is one of my favorite characters, and to start off with his research we’re going to start right where we always do: with his Wiki Fandom!
Here’s what they give us for his initial bio section:
Bumi was the wild-eyed, eccentric, elderly King of Omashu. Prior to the start of the Hundred Year War, Bumi had been a close friend of Avatar Aang, and he remained the only known friend from Aang’s childhood still alive by 100 AG. He became an old and wild man, prone to cackling and snorting laughter at jokes. Despite his apparent frailty, Bumi was an earthbending master, at one point claiming himself to be “the most powerful earthbender you’ll ever see”.
Bumi’s eccentricity arose out of the fact that he always kept his mind “open to the possibilities”. As a child, Bumi decided to use the Omashu delivery system as a chute ride, for which Aang dubbed him “a mad genius”, a name that Bumi seemed to appreciate. Although Bumi appeared senile, he was in fact a brilliant and patient tactician, willing to wait until the opportune moment to strike in order to produce the most favorable outcome. Bumi carried himself with the same composure during a quiet, peaceful meal as he did when his city was under attack and he rarely explained his actions, which tended to infuriate his subordinates.
Similar to how we first see him in the show: at first glance it might be weird to think we’re going to be trying to train like Bumi.
Then he takes his shirt off like Master Roshi and we’re blown away by his physique.
That’s what we want to do.
Moving onto his powers and abilities section here’s what his Wiki tells us:
Despite his advanced age, Bumi was remarkably strong, sporting a deceptively muscular physique. He was very quick to react to threats and highly agile, able to reach considerable distances with a single jump, propelling himself with his earthbending. King Bumi was a master earthbender who was one of, if not the best in the world. His style was very conservative and stressed waiting for exactly the right moment to strike; however, when said moment did come, he demonstrated extremely powerful techniques. Bumi could levitate entire houses, extremely large boulders, create fissures with kicks into the ground, turn ordinary dirt into quicksand, and quickly tunnel through the ground. Most extraordinarily, Bumi was able to earthbend exclusively with his face with little-to-no handicap. With rock pillars, Bumi could also launch himself or heavy metal objects such as tanks into the air, and once toppled a large metal statue from underneath. Bumi could also bend jennamite.
So in case you missed it here’s what we’re focusing in on for this one:
- Remarkably Strong
- Deceptively Muscular Physique
- Highly Agile
We don’t necessarily need to be DECEPTIVELY muscular, but hey, we’ll take what we can get, right?
Get ready.

Bumi Workout Routine
Training Volume:
5 days per week
Explanation:
For this one we’re going to be training 4 days a week with calisthenics training and then one day per week is going to mix a long distance cardio training session with our calisthenics. The calisthenics during the four day split will allow us to hit a few main calisthenics movements while adding in holds, core and some extra advancement.
The Superhero Academy now comes with an Upgrade Your Workout Tool that allows Academy members to turn any SHJ workout into a 4-8 week fully planned regime detailing exact weights to lift and including reverse & traditional pyramid training, straight sets, super sets, progressive overload and more.
