You may have thought we were going to slow down with our Baki Inspired Workouts, but we’re not ready for that just yet.
We’ve been on an absolute tear with some of the most powerful Baki characters ever appearing on the site recently, and Kaoru Hanayama is another character that me and The SHJ Army feel is an absolute must.
He’s another huge character, which doesn’t so much help add diversity to our Baki Workout Placement Quiz, but he does bring some new tactics to the research section we’ll be looking at below.
He is also a character that members like you will search for within our Anime Workouts Database, so either way he was going to need to make his way onto SHJ.
Kaoru Hanayama Stats:
Real Name: Kaoru Hanayama
Height: 6’3
Weight: 366 lbs.
Anime: Baki
Powers: No
Hanayama is another huge Baki character.
He might not be as big as Pickle and Jack Hanma, but his 366 pounds at just 6’3 is absolute monstrous.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Kaoru Hanayama Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Kaoru Hanayama Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
Kaoro Hanayama is one of the most powerful Baki characters in the series, and to learn a bit more about him we’re going to be pulling right from his Wiki Fandom page.
Here’s how they lead us off with a brief bio on him:
Kaoru Hanayama is a major character from the anime and manga series of Baki the Grappler. He is known as the strongest Yakuza in Japan, and one of the strongest characters from the series. He is the second generation boss of the Hanayama Group. He has scars from multiple wounds on his body, and his full-back tattoo looks like a jigsaw puzzle due to the many scars.
Hanayama is also very young, appearing at the ages of 15, 19, and 20 – but still absolutely humungous in muscle and overall size.
When we move into his abilities they start off with:
Hanayama is an immensely powerful gangster who mostly relies on his raw physical power and his grip. His grip is so strong that if he grabs an opponent’s arm he can usually cause it to explode from constricting the blood flow as he did with Yuri Chakovsky. When he was a child, Hanayama could break a bottle, tear a thick magazine, change the shape of the doorknob and bench a bottle cap with his hand. When he grew up, Hanayama learned to tear a chunk from a deck of cards effortlessly with his fingers.
From there they begin to talk about how fearless Hanayama is, before getting into even more about his overall power level:
He is also a fearless street fighter with many scars all over his body as proof. He was born already strong and he almost broke the finger of his grandfather within hours of being born. Despite that, he trains hard to become even stronger but didn’t train his whole life like some others. He always takes attacks “head-on” and is shown to be incredibly tough in that when a group of thugs shot at him with guns they left him no lasting damage at all and simply bounced off. He possesses a very high pain tolerance as he was able to take punches from the convict Spec who had previously caused extensive damage to the Liberty Statue just through the use of his fists. He was also shown to be able to catch a Musashi Miyamoto blade between his knuckles and his back muscles are strong and durable enough to withstand several of his sword attacks. Later on in the series, he was also able to give Yuujiro a bloody nose, even though the damage was near insignificant to the latter.
They finally finish off with his ability section with more about his power, but also naming one slight weakness:
During a strength test with Pickle, Hanayama’s strength was compared to that of a Triceratops, a dinosaur that can weigh between 6-12 tons. Hanayama also fought a Great White Shark with his bare hands whilst underwater, and he managed to kill the animal by crushing its brain. His physical strength is great enough that he’s the first human that Pickle recognized as a rival, instead of food.
However, Hanayama’s greatest weakness is his low speed. Despite being able to move relatively fast when it’s needed, he more relies on his toughness and his brutal punches and grip rather than speed as most of his punches are powerful yet slow. Speed-oriented fighters relying on speed like Katsumi, Baki, and Musashi were able to win against him with the latter nearly killing him. Also, despite his toughness, he is more vulnerable to his stomach as it was the only place which Musashi was able to cut from ten slashes he landed on him.
We recently saw our Pickle Inspired Workout as well, and we know just how strong he is, so this is definitely saying something.
While we trained around overall mass and strength with our most recently workout – our Jack Hanma Inspired Workout – we will be doing it again with a different style to become the absolutely massive and powerful Kaoru Hanayama.
To switch it up and train less for aesthetics (the mass will come on it’s own as we focus on strength), and more around Hanayama’s overall power, we will be be using more powerlifting style tactics.
This will allow us to get a different style routine in our Baki Inspired Workout Database, but is also a better and more true display for the style that would be best to achieve Hanayama’s abilities and overall massive aesthetic.
