So far, among Haikyu characters, we’ve only seen Shoyo Hinata Inspired Workout – but now it’s time to step it up a notch.
You guys sent in the requests, and I’m delivering.
Tobio Kageyama came in at number ONE on BOTH our lists of the most popular Haikyu characters and the most skilled Haikyu characters.
If that doesn’t make him worthy of his spot at SHJ as soon as possible, I’m not sure what does.
We don’t have our Haikyu Quiz yet, but he’s going to be a great addition to our Workout Placement Quizzes as a whole.
Tobio Kageyama Stats:
Real Name: Tobio Kageyama
Height: 6’2
Weight: 181 lbs.
Anime: Haikyu!!
Powers: No
Tobio is actually quite tall when compared to male anime characters we’ve seen thus far.
He’s still dwarfed by the behemoths in our Anime Workouts Database – but he actually stands above the majority.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Tobio Kageyama Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Tobio Kageyama Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To learn more about Tobio and the skills we’re going to use to build out this routine we’re going to be pulling from his Wiki Fandom page, which gives us a brief bio to start:
Tobio Kageyama is the deuteragonist of the Haikyū!! series. For the majority of the series, he was a first-year student at Karasuno High School and played as the starting setter for the boys’ volleyball club.
He was chosen to train at the All-Japan youth training camp during his first year of high school and joined the V League as soon as he graduated. He became a part of Japan’s national volleyball team at the age of 19, participating in the Rio Olympics in 2016. In November 2018, he was playing as a setter for the Japanese V-League Division 1 team Schweiden Adlers. Currently, he is a member of Ali Roma, an Italian professional team in Italy Series A.
Being that we won’t strictly be training around his skills, but also his physique and overall aesthetic, I’ll also be sharing his appearance section, which his Fandom states as follows:
Kageyama’s height and impressively sharp glare are said to be his most prominent physical features and source of attraction to several female classmates. He is of a lean but muscular build. He often emits an intimidating aura, which is heightened by the almost permanent scowl on his face. His black hair is cropped short, with a fringe that hangs just above his dark blue eyes. His typical attire consists of either his school uniform or practice clothes.
So one thing we’ll need to keep in mind is that we are definitely looking to build that lean and muscular build we see from Tobio.
When we move into his skills section we don’t get the kind of skills and abilities we’re used to seeing from our heroes, but I’ll still share some of it.
They lead with this:
- Pinpoint Accuracy: Kageyama’s most prominent and praised skill is his ability to accurately determine a ball’s trajectory and tossing it to the exact point. Combined with the fact that he can set from any angle at incredible speeds, this makes his sets almost impossible for most of his opponents to predict and counter. His pinpoint accuracy is a necessary component in Kageyama and Hinata’s infamous “Freak-Quick” sets. He can calculate Hinata’s exact spike point to send the ball straight to him at the perfect moment in time. Moreover, Kageyama uses his accuracy and fast handling of the ball for other purposes too, such as straight shots and setter dumps. Like Astumu, Kageyama’s sets are also easy to hit and give the hitters the impression that they have gotten better.
They also go on to discuss his:
- Minus-Tempo Quick Strike
- King’s Toss
- Jump Serve
- Dump Set
- Tw0-setter Attack
- One Person Time Difference Attack
Here’s what we can learn from all this (and the fact that they break down his individual skill level on his setting, serving and other abilities with stats all ranging from 7-10 out of 10) is: We are training around a great athlete with a lean and muscular physique. For that reason we are going to be using the research we’ve learned from the celebrity and athletes we’ve researched within our Workout Database (including some Olympic volleyball players) and building the perfect routine for Tobio.
For this one we’re going to be keeping it to calisthenics, but I’ll also be tacking on additional intensity work and endurance work to really round out the athletic training.

Tobio Kageyama Workout Routine
Training Volume:
3-5 days per week
Explanation:
This routine is very intense, but you can scale it down by doing each exercise individually and even cutting some exercises out. You can also opt to strictly do the 3 calisthenics days and cut the endurance work and circuit test as well if you choose – but I recommend doing the test every once in a while to see how your skills improve over time.
The Superhero Academy now comes with an Upgrade Your Workout Tool that allows Academy members to turn any SHJ workout into a 4-8 week fully planned regime detailing exact weights to lift and including reverse & traditional pyramid training, straight sets, super sets, progressive overload and more.
