We’re back for another addition to our YuYu Hakusho Inspired Workouts, this time with Black Angel!
Right off the bat I want to make mention to the fact we’ll be training with weights for this one.
So if you want a bodyweight workout you’ll want to head into the Calisthenics Workouts and choose from there instead.
That said, if you’re ready to get jacked; then you’re in the right place.
Shinobu Sensui Stats:
Real Name: Shinobu Sensui
Height: 6’3
Weight: N/A
Anime: YuYu Hakusho
Powers: Yes
Shinobu Sensui is actually pretty tall, only three or so inches below what we’d consider a behemoth among our Anime Workouts Database.
And although we don’t have a specific weight range for him, we can guess he’s between 190-215 range based on his mass.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.

Shinobu Sensui Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero, unless I mentioned differently (for example someone like Hulk may get something specifically different)**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.

Shinobu Sensui Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To learn more about Shinobu Sensui I will be pulling right from his Wiki Fandom page, starting with his bio section here:
Shinobu Sensui also known as the “Black Angel“, was the main antagonist of the Chapter Black Saga, as well as a former Spirit Detective in his youth, having been recruited by Koenma for his prodigious talents and his unequaled sense of right and wrong. He is also one of the archenemies of Yusuke Urameshi (alongside Suzaku, and Younger Toguro).
This doesn’t tell us much about what we’ll be training around, but there’s a lot more for us to research.
There’s actually a lot to cover with his abilities, and his appearance is quite obvious, so I’m actually going to be skipping that section and heading right into his overall abilities instead.
Here’s how they break it down for us:
Sensui was a very powerful human, noted himself to have more than ten times the spiritual energy than Yusuke in their fight. When Sensui started releasing his Sacred Energy, Hiei mentions that if Sensui was a demon, his energy levels would have been S-class, even though he was still suppressing his true power and openly admitting he wouldn’t even use half of it as he feared his full, unleashed power would have caused massive amounts of destruction in the material realm. He held a distinct advantage over Yusuke, even in his demon form. According to Raizen, Yusuke’s demon ancestor and the most powerful of the Three Kings, Sensui would’ve eventually killed Yusuke had he not interfered, despite Yusuke having been revived as a mazoku. Additionally, it should be noted that these judgments of Sensui’s power were made at a time when he was so ill that he was judged to have about two weeks left to live.
Sensui is also shown to have very sharp senses. Despite Sensui having more than enough power to overwhelm Yusuke, Sensui’s instincts were hesitant to do so. It was revealed the reason behind Sensui’s hesitation was because his instincts sensed Yusuke’s dormant demon blood; either realizing killing Yusuke would trigger his rebirth or it would go against his newfound disdain for killing demons.
This gets us on the right track and shows that we’re definitely dealing with an extremely powerful character.
From there they also go on to tell us a lot about his fighting style here:
Resshūken: An elegant fighting style that is only available to fighters that have mastered all other forms of martial arts. This style is considered to be the strongest, most elegant, school of martial arts in existence and relies on fast footwork in order to focus on fending off enemy attacks with the arms and using the legs to counterattack with powerful kicks. Genkai was the one to identify and name this fighting style during the first confrontation between Sensui and Yusuke. The English dubs pronounce this as “Reshuyuken.” As a result of his training for this martial art, his physique is extremely well developed, to the point where Yusuke compared hitting him to punching a tractor tire. In fact at one point after punching Sensui repeatedly in the stomach, Yusuke had to take a somewhat comical time-out while Sensui was down to nurse his battered hand.
I add this section fairly prominently because this shows we’ll still need to be extremely mobile and quick while building around his mass.
They then go on to discuss a bunch of his specific abilities but I will be simply listing them as opposed to breaking each one down individually:

This brings us right into our wrap up.
The goals of our Shinobu Sensui Inspired Workout are going to be:
- Shinobu Sensui’s Massive Muscular Aesthetic
- Shinobu Sensui’s Strength and Speed
- Shinobu Sensui’s Fighter Mobility and Endurance
For this one we’ll be training to be muscular and shredded while needing to still work around mobility and endurance, but I will still be looking to keep it at a fairly intermediate level – especially being that you’ll be able to scale down the weight as needed.
That said, if it does seem a bit too much to jump into you can also start with The Beginner Behemoth Workout or any of the other Beginner Workouts and scale up to this one.

For this one we’re going to be working around 3 days of full body training that will also work on muscle endurance while building tons of strength with supersets, and then we’ll also tack on a Spirit Detective Circuit Test and a day devoted to endurance as well.

You can utilize enforced endurance training that I will program for you based on your fitness level like we do with other workouts here at SHJ…OR you can do 45-60+ minutes of varied cardio (bike, treadmill, elliptical, stairs, row, swim, etc.)…OR you can even use the HIIT resources I’ll provide.
I’ll break it down in that order:
