We’re bringing in another older and extremely powerful Baki character.
Not only is Kaioh Ryu humongous, with a physique most of our SHJ Army would only dream to have, but he’s also one of the stronger characters (although not necessarily one of the strongest being that there are so many extremely powerful characters).
He’s not quite as old as Kaioh Kaku, but he comes in as the second oldest among our Baki Inspired Workouts.
We’ll talk more about Ryu’s age in our workout research section, but Kaku comes in at 146 years old when we first see him in the manga, while Ryu comes in at around 100 years old – but looks FAR superior with his overall aesthetic.
He’ll make a fun addition for our Baki Workout Placement Quiz and our unlimited access members for our Unofficial Baki Workout Booklet.
Kaioh Ryuu Stats:
Real Name: Kaiou Ryuu
Height: 6’7
Weight: 220 lbs.
Anime: Baki
Powers: No
Kaioh Ryu is ginormous.
He is definitely one of our behemoths within our Anime Workouts Database, and fairly tall when compared to our gigantic Baki characters.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Kaioh Ryu Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Kaioh Ryu Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To learn more about Kaioh Ryu I’ll be pulling from his Wiki Fandom page, and I’ll also be using different information [if necessary] from his portrayal in both our Baki anime on Netflix, in the manga, and in Baki The Grappler, in attempt to do his character justice (potentially more than he got).
Here’s what they start off with for an initial bio section:
Kaiou Ryuu is a fictional character from Baki the Grappler series. He is the head of the temple in Heilong-Jiang, China and mentor of Kaiou Retsu. He is an aged warrior, though not as old as Kaiou Kaku.
From there we can actually move on to discuss his appearance being that it talks a bit more about his age.
Here’s how they break it down for us:
Ryuu is an aged warrior being 100 years old and still retains a massively muscled physique. He is bald with a white beard and matching eyebrows his eyes seem to be cross eyed or simply not focusing. Attire wise he wears a white sleeveless shirt, black kung fu pants with the ends wrapped in cloth and kung fu shoes.
During his fight with Yuujirou, Ryuu has his faced ripped off and is unknown what he currently looks like.
You can see Yujiro actually slapping his face into ripples in the picture above.
If we move into his abilities section we can learn a bit more about how strong he is:
Being able to earn the title of Kaiou it is implied that Ryuu is very strong and skillful enough to be given the name. Being the mentor of Retsu Kaiou it is implied that he is a master of Byaku-Rinji style of Kung Fu. He has displayed great strength being able to pass his own strength test until interrupted and evenly matched by Retsu. He is shown being able to push open large doors with a large barricade on it, and crush part of his arm chair with relative ease when Retsu tells him he wants to enter Baki in the Raitai Tournament very much upsetting the Ryuu Kaiou.
Clearly we’re working around a character that is extremely strong – one of the world’s strongest – but just not within the top five or even ten among Baki characters being that there are just so many powerful characters (and OP characters, actually).
That’s why Ryu was didn’t even make it onto our list of the strongest Baki characters.
Before we wrap it up and are ready to move into what we’re working on with this one, they also finish off his abilities section by stating:
Ryuu has shown to have great endurance and pain tolerance being able to continue his short lived fight after having his face ripped off by Yuujirou. Even though he is not shown but is implied being able to perfectly carve a large stone into a sphere called the “great hitting stone” Retsu was shown Ryuu Kaiou’s hitting stone as an example to Ryuu’s hard work.
Retsu actually DID make it onto our list of the strongest characters, so it would have been fun to see what Ryu was like in his prime considering he is Retsu’s mentor.
Here are our goals for this workout:
- Kaioh Ryu’s Massive Muscular Physique
- Kaioh Ryu’s Incredible Strength
- Kaioh Ryu’s Great Endurance
The primary goal will be his physique, and the strength will come while training for that – but I’ll also add in some endurance work as well.
Feel free to cut this if it becomes too much volume for you.
Check out all The SHJ Programs and start unleashing your inner SuperHuman.
