Gildarts Clive is a Fairy Tail character that has been requested nearly as much as the characters that made our most popular Fairy Tail characters list.
He’s also extremely powerful and makes a great character for building a workout around – which is why I am so excited to be finally getting him on the site.
He is actually so powerful that he came in at number five among our list of the most powerful Fairy Tail characters of all time, which is a list I was waiting to get on the site prior to building his routine.
That being said, he is also a muscular character, like some of our other Fairy Tail characters among our Fairy Tail Inspired Workouts, that has a great aesthetic and muscular build for this routine – that makes him much more than just a powerful mage (in terms of workout creation).

Height: 6’2
Weight: 220 lbs.

Powers: Yes
Gildarts is actually quite tall and at 220 pounds he clearly has a bunch of muscle mass on him.
Although he definitely is dwarfed by a bunch of the monsters within our Anime Workouts Database.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.

Gildarts Clive Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.

Gildarts Clive Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
We’re going to be starting our research into Gildarts Clive by pulling right from his Wiki Fandom page, starting with an initial bio:
Gildarts Clive is known for being one of the Fairy Tail Guild’s S-Class Mages, its Ace, its most famous Mage at one time, and was its Fifth Guild Master. He is also the father of Cana Alberona.
Before we move into his actual physical abilities we’ll be starting with his magic and hand to hand combat, which they list as follows:
Crush: Gildarts’ signature Magic, Crush is an extremely powerful Caster Magic that smashes everything the user comes into contact with into pieces. It can be used to both crack Magic into pieces, thereby nullifying its effects, as well as to reduce the Magic’s power and to deflect it. Even the most powerful spells are rendered useless when faced with this destructive and advanced Magic, which is difficult to control even for an extremely powerful individual like Gildarts himself. The effects of Crush occasionally manifest themselves as the target being separated into cubes; interestingly, should Crush be directly cast on another living organism, the recipient is separated into numerous, doll-like versions of themselves. After some time, the target should revert to their original form, but should Gildarts wish, he can manually change them back.
Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Gildarts is an extremely accomplished unarmed fighter. During the S-Class Mage Promotion Trial, he easily defended himself against and even overwhelmed a determined Natsu, utilizing nothing but hand-to-hand combat.
Obviously we’ll be keeping the fact that he is a master hand to hand combatant in mind, but we won’t be able to get Gildarts Crush Magic just by weight training.
On top of that we also won’t be able to build his immense magical power, which they describe as such:
Immense Magic Power: Even by S-Class Mage standards, Gildarts has been noted to possess an immense amount of Magic Power which he can release as a thick, potent aura around him. People in the immediate vicinity can be brought to their knees by its power, even potential S-Class Mages, and its force can be felt at great distances. When exerted, Gildarts’ Magic Power is white in color. As a further testament to his power, Gildarts casually overwhelmed the Historia of God Serena, the former strongest mage of Ishgar, defeating him with a single attack (although it’s worth noting that God Serena was a Historia and not at full power because of that).
What we WILL be able to train around is the rest of his physical abilities.
His Fandom page breaks those down for us as well:
Immense Strength: Gildarts has shown to be extremely strong, as when Natsu attempted to attack him, he casually threw him into the ceiling with one hand. He is also shown to be able to not only move, but attack with surprising agility and strength under the influence of Bluenote Stinger’s gravitational field, a remarkable feat as Natsu, a potential S-Class Mage known for his physical prowess, wasn’t even able to stand. When angered after seeing Natsu get swallowed by a dinosaur, he was able to destroy not only the dinosaur, but also a vast portion of the landscape with a single punch. He destroyed the entire Kardia Cathedral when attacking August with a single punch.
Immense Durability: Gildarts has proven himself to be extremely durable, shown when he emerged completely unscathed after taking the full brunt of Natsu’s Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade, (which was used to defeat an internally and externally weakened Laxus) only taking two steps backwards afterward. He also survived having his left arm, left leg, and an unspecified organ taken away from him by Acnologia, and is the only known human to survive an attack from the self proclaimed Dragon King and live to tell the tale.
Enhanced Speed: Gildarts possesses incredible raw speed, being able to out-maneuver and surprise someone of August’s caliber.
These are the things we’ll REALLY be training around.
For this reason we’ll be training with weights to build strength and speed, while also tacking on some an endurance and speed circuit to really put our Gildarts Clive abilities to the test.

Explanation:
Four days a week we will be training around our big four compound lifts, and building our training regime around them each day. The fifth and final day will be devoted to our Gildarts Speed Circuit which can be done weekly, biweekly, or even just as a test once per month to see how much progress you’re making over time.
