We can’t have our Vinland Saga Inspired Workouts without Askeladd.
Granted you guys did request Thors, Thorfinn and Thorkell before Askeladd, he was still one of the top requests, making him the fourth character from the series that will grab a spot here at SHJ.
Askeladd also just came in at number four among our top ten strongest Vinland Saga characters, mainly for his cunning leadership.
And, ironically enough, our other three character I mentioned just now were the three that came in above him on that list.
Vinland Saga will eventually get a Workout Placement Quiz pretty soon (if you’re reading this later on it might already have one), but for now Askeladd will be on our base quizzes.
Askeladd Stats:
Real Name: Lucius Artorius Castus
Height: 5’7
Weight: N/A
Anime: Vinland Saga
Powers: No
Askeladd comes in right around average height if we compare him to male anime characters we’ve seen at SHJ.
Although by now you know we have tons of behemoths within our Anime Workouts Database as well.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Askeladd Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Askeladd Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To learn more about Askeladd I’ll be pulling from his Wiki Fandom page, starting with a decent bio section they give us:
Askeladd (Asheraddo アシェラッド) also known as Lucius Artorius Castus (Rukiusu Arutoriusu Kasutusu, was a cunning, mysterious Viking who commanded mercenary band of Vikings that included Thorfinn. Askeladd was half Danish and half Welsh, claiming descent from the legendary Lucius Artorius Castus, for whom he was named by his mother, with “Askeladd” being a nickname.
He was contracted by Floki to assassinate Thors and shortly after took Thorfinn in, who grew up on the battlefield and became obsessed with avenging his father’s death by killing his commander. After his band was wiped out by Thorkell, Askeladd pledged his service to Canute to achieve this goal of keeping Wales safe from Viking invasion.
As I mentioned above: a lot of Askeladd’s “power” comes from being cunning and a great leader.
When we move into his abilities section, though, we do learn he has much more to him than his leadership:
Master swordsman: Askeladd was a highly skilled swordsman, displaying a talent for this at age 11, when he defended his mother from his father Olaf. Despite being middle-aged at the time of his death, he survived combat against multiple opponents at once, including King Sweyn’s royal guards.
Ranged weapons: Askeladd had skill with throwing hatchets and throwing knives, although they were not his primary weapons.
Leadership skills: Askeladd is also a master tactician as well as a skilled politician. His ability to manipulate those around him turned a horde of pirates and raiders into a close-knit group wholly loyal to him. He has shown himself capable of turning enemies into allies, as seen with Thorfinn, Thorkell, and Prince Canute.
Askeladd could also instantly read a man, an ability he claimed to have picked up from living 40 years among wicked men.
His leadership skills and ability to read a man were just paired with his swordsmanship to make him as cunning as he was.
That said, we are obviously not dealing with a character that has overwhelming strength like Thorkell, or even levels of Thors for that matter, so we’ll actually be revolving this workout around calisthenics training.
The main goals of this workout will be:
- Askeladd’s Muscular but Slim Physique
- Swordsman Calisthenics (Strength and Speed)
- Swordsman Endurance (Stamina Work)
This one won’t be too difficult, but you could always scale down as needed or even move into the Beginner Ninja (calisthenics) or Beginner Behemoth (weight training) routines if you’d like as well.
