Vinland Saga is coming back in anime form in 2023 and we’re getting ready for it at SHJ.
We started with a handful of characters inside our Vinland Saga Inspired Workouts and we’ve now been updating it with an awesome list of characters that we’re finally going to get to see hit the screen.
The fun part about Vinland Saga is we get characters of all shapes and sizes to build routines around that allow us to mix it up with weight training and calisthenics revolving around all different goals.
In order to train around Snake, who came in at number eight on our list of the strongest Vinland Saga characters, we’ll be grabbing the weights; so if you’re looking for a calisthenics workout you’ll want to jump into a different database and/or character.
Snake Stats:
Real Name: Roald
Height: 5’6
Weight: 143 lbs.
Anime: Vinland Saga
Powers: No
Snake is actually quite short, though for a time the average height among male anime characters was around his height (though many were younger).
He misses being a behemoth among our Anime Workouts Database by about a foot, and would be in the shortest range if we compare him to male celebrities and superheroes as well.
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Snake Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Snake Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To learn more about Snake we’ll be pulling right from his Wiki Fandom page, which doesn’t have a ton of information, but has enough for us to know how to build out our workout routine.
Here’s how they start us off:
Snake is a Danish warrior who is employed by Ketil as head of his farm’s guards. His real name is Roald.
This definitely tell us much, but it does get us started with his overall character.
Normally we’d skip right into his abilities, but since we don’t have a ton to go on we’ll actually also include his appearance section as well:
Snake appears to be in his middle to late 30s. His oriental saber and equipment suggest that he possibly had been in the service of Roman Emperors in Constantinople as a Varangian Guard.
From there we can move into his personality which tells us a bit more about his background before we move into his abilities which will be how we really learn what we’ll be working with.
Here’s what they tell us about Snake:
Snake is compassionate and a man of reason. During the Ketil’s Farm arc, Snake often shows to be genuinely concerned for other people, free men and slaves alike. He has saved Thorfinn and other slaves countless times from brutal treatment with both reasons and his intimidating combat prowess.
Snake rarely lets his emotion gets the better of him, however when his comrades are slaughtered by Gardar, he quickly gets angry when seeing his men being treated like mere pawns.
Snake seems to have a strong bond with both Ketil and his father but refuses to explain further, replying that they are mere strangers.
After that they somehow give us a ton of information about his abilities and strength level with very few words:
Snake has strength greater than Askeladd and speed nearly matching Thorfinn.
That tells us a lot about what we have to build our routine around.
The goals for our Snake Inspired Workout are going to be:
- Snake’s Incredible Strength and Speed
- Snake’s Lean and Toned, Muscular Physique
- Snake’s Fighter Endurance
As I mentioned above we’ll be using weights to do this, but if you’d like to start off with a beginner routine you can find our Beginner Workouts here and work your way up to this one if it seems a bit daunting.
