Last week we brought in our Tanjiro Kamado Calisthenics Workout, and now it’s time to get a take on Giyu Tomioka!
We have obviously already had Giyu on the site with our original Giyu Tomioka Inspired Workout built around weight training – but as The SHJ Army grows the percentage of calisthenics members get larger as well.
We’ll take a different spin on our bodyweight Demon Slayer training on this one, but still expect to see some high volume out of this one as well.
Giyu comes in as not only one of our most powerful Demon Slayer characters, but also one of our most popular Demon Slayer characters, so doing his character justice with a workout suitable to his power level is important.
Giyu Tomioka Stats:
Real Name: Giyu Tomioka
Height: 5’9 1/2
Weight: 152 lbs.
Anime/Manga: Demon Slayer
Powers: Yes
Giyu comes in a bit above average height we’ve seen for male anime characters, though that range has increased slightly – putting him a bit further off the mark of what we’d consider a behemoth among our Anime Workouts Database.
That said, his weight to height seems fairly reasonable for his frame, although that’s not necessarily something we typically care about (especially with them sometimes being so far off reality).
Wolverine was the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming in at 5’2, (and Gimli even shorter) – but Damian Wayne (Robin) is only 5’4. Goku isn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, with Miles Morales only an inch above him.
One Punch Man falls in at 5’9 right there with Ryu, Nightwing at 5’10, and then Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Arrow coming in around 5’11 and Beast joining them.
We’ve had Superman and Eddie Brock’s Venom at 6’3, and Captain America, Scorpion and Batman at 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1. Thor and Cyborg are towering over them at 6’6, Thanos and King right there with them at 6’7, Bane at 6’8, and Deathstroke right below at 6’5, and Black Manta at 6’4.
Ronan and Sagat are 7’5, and Doomsday came in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Giyu Tomioka Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero.**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
Guys like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hopper, Benedict Cumberbatch and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting (something I use daily as well), Ariana Grande, Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
It’s all about sustainability.
AND, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, SuperHumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
Curious where over a hundred celebs fall in their dietary choices ranging from High Protein and Keto to Vegetarian, Vegan and Intermittent Fasting? Want exclusive celeb meal plans? Check this out.

Giyu Tomioka Calisthenics Workout Routine Research
We’ve made it to “the fun part”.
And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.
To learn more about Giyu Tomioka we’ll be pulling right from his Wiki Fandom page, starting with his bio section here:
Giyu Tomioka is a major supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps and the current Water Hashira.
This doesn’t tell us much other than letting us know he’s extremely powerful right off the bat by mentioning his status as the Water Hashira.
We have our list of all the most powerful Demon Slayer Hashira, and we know that being a Hashira in general means you’ve earned it by an extremely adequate power level.
From there I actually want to share the first line of his appearance section just to draw note to what they point out:
Giyu is a tall young man of muscular stature and pale complexion, who is almost always seen wearing a serious and emotionless expression.
They specifically make mention to the fact that he’s considered tall and muscular – and although height doesn’t play a factor in this one – getting a muscular physique definitely does.
From there we can move right into his powers and abilities section which start off with his overall power level:
Overall Abilities: As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is a very powerful and skilled combatant. From the beginning, Giyu showed how much he outclassed Tanjiro and his friends, being able to effortlessly capture Nezuko from him and later knocked him unconscious in a single blow. Later, he was able to easily defeat Father in his transformed state and Rui, Lower Rank Five, something Tanjiro and Inosuke respectively failed to accomplish. He also fought equally against fellow Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa in a sparring match. Giyu was also shown easily beating dozens of demons equal to that of the Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki. On top of his incredible skills as a Demon Slayer, Giyu is also a very capable teammate, able to grasp their intentions and work in tandem with it.
They move on to discuss more about specific battles and feats of strength, but then we eventually make our way into what we really want to utilize for our workout.
As well as discussing Giyu’s indomitable will they also discuss his master swordsmanship (which we’ll be taking into account) and Water Breathing, but what we’re really looking for is his physical attributes we can relate back to our training.
Here’s what I’m talking about:
Immense Speed & Reflexes: Giyu possesses inhuman speed and reflexes, as shown when he took Nezuko away from Tanjiro’s grasps at blinding speeds, which took him several seconds to register. Later, he was able to hoist and tie Inosuke up to a tree before he even realized what happened, causing him to remark that he’s extremely fast. Giyu also easily caught up to Shinobu when she was pursuing Tanjiro. In his battle with Lower Five, Giyu could cut all of Rui’s threads so fast that it seemed like he didn’t move his arms at all, and was later able to nonchalantly decapitate the demon in the moment he had blinked. He was also able to keep up with Upper Rank Three, Akaza, who is one of the fastest demons in existence and when he awakened his mark, Giyu managed to surprise him several times and appeared to “teleport” even to Akaza. Giyu also managed to evade many of Muzan’s attacks and negate them with his form Dead Calm.
Immense Stamina & Endurance: Due to extremely harsh training, Giyu has attained incredible stamina and endurance. In his battle against Akaza, he managed to continue fighting even after sustaining dozens of injuries all over his body, severely weakening him, a feat which pleasantly surprised Akaza. During the final clash with the Demon King, Giyu managed to hold off Muzan despite initially being inflicted with his poisonous blood, and later still played a pivotal role in his defeat after his arm was cut off by helping Tanjiro turn his blade bright red. Even after the entire ordeal, when Tanjiro was transformed into a demon, Giyu still had enough energy left to fight him off for a brief period of time. Giyu was also one of only two Hashira to survive the final battle in the end.
Immense Strength: As a Hashira, Giyu has honed his physical strength to beyond what is conceivable for human. Even since the first encounter with Tanjiro and Nezuko, he has displayed impressive feats of strength, such as swinging his blade with so much force that he caused an enormous gust of wind that knocked both Tanjiro and Nezuko back a far distance, holding down a berserk Nezuko with one hand effortlessly, and later knocking her unconscious in one strike to the neck. In his spin-off story, he could break extremely strong ropes tied around his wrists with ease while nonchalantly talking to Shinobu Kocho.
If it wasn’t clear: we have our work cut out for us.
The goals for our Giyu Tomioka Inspired [Calisthenics] Workout are:
- Giyu’s Immense Strength and Speed
- Giyu’s Lean and Toned Physique
- Giyu’s Immense Stamina and Endurance
On top of that we’ll be focusing on body control to replicate his strengths as a master swordsman and fighter.
This one will get pretty intense at times, but you’ll also be able to scale down by cutting off the final circuit I program you each day.
We’ll have some fairly high volume in here being that we are building around the calisthenics training and a finisher circuit each day, so if scaling isn’t something you’re comfortable with you can also start with either our Beginner Ninja Workout or even our Beginner Speedster Workout.
Check out all The SHJ Programs and start unleashing your inner SuperHuman.
Giyu Tomioka Workout Routine
3-5 days per week
This one is going to be a fun one because it will essentially be built around two different programs with a beginner calisthenics workout targeting all our goals, but also a finisher circuit each day that really levels up our training to make it more of a Giyu-oriented program. On top of that we’ll also have one day devoted entirely to endurance work as well as a Water Hashira Circuit Test you can complete weekly, biweekly or monthly (and you can sub in more endurance training or circuits on the weeks you don’t use your test).
Want To Upgrade This Workout?
The Superhero Academy now comes with an Upgrade Your Workout Tool that allows Academy members to turn any SHJ workout into a 4-8 week fully planned regime detailing exact weights to lift and including reverse & traditional pyramid training, straight sets, super sets, progressive overload and more.
