It’s time for Dexter’s workout routine.
And by that I mean Michael C. Hall’s workout!
He isn’t just Dexter (although he’s mostly Dexter, right?), he has also been in Gamer, Six Feet Under, Paycheck, and many more awesome rolls.
Although Dexter doesn’t normally strut around shirtless as if we were talking about one of our big superhero stars, Hall has had a handful of scenes that have turned heads and made viewers want to step up their regimes in order to try and embody the ripped physique he shows off.
For that reason, it’s our job to dissect his workout routine and nutrition the best we can and bring his entire process to life!
Michael C. Hall Stats:
Height: 5’10
Weight: (approximate) 175 lbs.
Age: 49 years old
Michael C. Hall is technically below average height when compared to men we’ve seen at SHJ.
But, that doesn’t put him in the shortest range, and actually makes him fall into a completely different category.
The average height falls in the range of 6’1-6’3 with celebs like Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Adam Driver, Stephen Amell, Clive Standen and so many more.
Guys around 5’10-6’0 are dudes like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Jason Statham, but the ACTUAL shorter range is filled with guys like Mark Wahlberg, Zac Efron, Kit Harington, Tom Holland and more.
Even taller than them are guys like The Mountain, Joe Manganiello, Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Winston Duke, Alexander Skarsgard and a few others.
But, don’t worry either way.
We write these routines to be utilized by any shape and size.

Michael C. Hall Diet and Nutrition
The biggest piece of information we have about Michael C. Hall’s workout routine and nutrition is that we know who his trainer is, and we know they workout and hangout together.
With that we can begin to research the methodology as a unite rather than strictly searching Michael C. Hall’s regime.
Hall’s trainers name is Gregory Joujon-Roche.
Joujon-Roche has been quoted saying:
Eating healthy all day will motivate you to eat a healthy dinner. Then, you’re on a roll and feeling great.
And, judging Hall and Joujon-Roche’s nutrition planning strictly based on this quote and what I could find on the internet (in regards to images of them eating), it seems they follow a diet that would be most similar to our “Basic Healthy Eating” category.
I’ve discussed this in our Top Diets article and also within my book Superhuman Secrets.
To sum it up into a few sentences (which never really does it justice), it’s essentially a way of prioritizing “healthy” options which are generally low calorie vegetables at the forefront, followed by high protein options like fish, chicken and other meats.
This is countered by our “Strict High Protein Diet” we generally see popular among men looking to get a more bulky physique.
That being said, both Michael C. Hall and trainer Joujon-Roche strut a much more lean and ripped physique.
This generally comes hand-in-hand with the ability to include indulgences and “cheat meals” due to the nature of opting for the healthy options the large majority of the time.
Which, in turn, makes this an extremely sustainable option.
We see a lot of celebs opt for a sustainable approach like this.
That’s why our Academy Nutrition Classes (Monks, Minimalists, SuperHumans, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Greek Gods, Samurais, & Eat Fat, Lose Fat) revolve around helping you find the specific diet that is right FOR YOU.
Of course, there are a lot of reasons to HAVE the strict guidelines.
We’ve seen a lot of celebs opt for specific restrictions.
For example: Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart incorporate 80/20 dieting with big weekly cheat meals, Hugh Jackman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hopper, and Terry Crews utilize intermittent fasting(something I use daily as well), Mustafa Shakir and Madelaine Petsch are vegans, Brandon Routh and Frank Grillo opt for paleo, and tons of others utilize their own variations as well.
And, that’s just to name a few celebs from each, by the way.
You can check out our Nutrition Pillars for more information and articles on all of the above and more.

Michael C. Hall Workout Routine Research
Michael C. Hall’s physique is lean and toned.
He definitely does not opt for a bulkier, more muscular appearance like we may see with our “typical” superhero celebrities at SHJ.
That being said, there are a lot of people in The SHJ Army that want just what he has!
His trainer, Gregory Joujon-Roche, seems to opt for the style of training that fits Hall’s aesthetics perfectly.
Joujon-Roche’s approach consists of calisthenics, beach workouts, yoga, cardio (including running, biking, etc), and high levels of activity.
So, rather than hitting big weights looking for our next big personal record, Joujan-Roche would have us getting outdoors and likely having fun with our routine.
Another quote from Joujan-Roche is about our breakthrough moment.
Here’s what he tells us:
In the breakthrough moment, you teeter on the edge of failure, because you’re not sure that you can perform even more on rep. Your muscles say you can’t. Your mind says you can. Who wins?!
I like this one a lot because I feel like it doesn’t necessarily have to be just about that last rep. It can be about pushing through all sorts of different things that would otherwise hold us back from accomplishing our goals or progression.
Another one is Joujan-Roche teaching us a little about dive-bombers (a yoga movements). He says:
Stretch your abs and lower back, really open them up. Point your pinkie outward and spread your fingers. This takes the tension off your neck and puts it into your triceps and real deltoids.
So, go ahead and expect to be doing dive-bombers in your yoga routine if you want to train like Michael C. Hall.
And to finish up off I want to actually quote Tobey Maguire!
He trained with Greg for Spider-Man and says this about the training variation:
“Training for Spiderman was very demanding. I remember in one week we would do Pilates, weights, boxing, basketball, core, martial arts, and yoga. Talk about variation.”
Variable training is HUGE among celebrities, and it also makes it fun and different on a daily basis.
That’s one thing that was a really big part of my findings in Superhuman Secrets, and also a big factor in the building of our Legacy Program.
So, don’t think we’re just doing yoga and going for some runs; we’re going to be active and having fun the entire time!
Get ready.
