The day has finally come for us to take a look at The Most Powerful Anime Characters Of All Time!
I have been working on this list for a long time now in order to be able to link out to workouts inspired by each of the characters, and we’re finally there!
I was even able to add in a bunch of honorable mentions that include some bonus links as well, so I’m extremely excited to see what you guys think.
Obviously our Anime Workouts Database has been loving all the attention it’s been getting, but the preparation to get here has only made you guys even more excited to see more anime inspired workout routines so I have a feeling we’re not going to be slowing down any time soon.
We started off with some other fun listicles (having started by online really hosting workout listicles) but they were mainly about superheroes prior to building out some anime oriented ones like this one.
So far we’ve seen:
- The Most Powerful Superheroes of All Time
- The Most Powerful Superheroes with No Power
- The Physically Strongest Superheroes of All Time
- The Ten Most Popular Anime of All Time
- The Most Powerful Dragon Ball Characters Ranked
But this list is going to be even bigger and better!
I’m going through TWENTY FIVE of the most powerful anime characters of all time, and I have workout routines links for EVERY SINGLE ONE!
On top of that I’ll also be providing ten bonus honorable mentions that have a handful of links as well.
I did my best to not have too many double ups in universes (which is where the honorable mentions will help out), and I’m EXTREMELY curious to know what you guys think.
There were a handful of characters that I struggled with exact placement for, and I utilized tons of outside sources and opinions to make the actual list, but I still think there could very easily be tweaks and changes.
The other fun part is that I actually brought in some extra help from our Academy members, so each time I was consulting with them this list seemed to grow by another five characters!
What started as ten super powerful anime characters ended up with 25-35 names…
Let’s do this!
THE MOST POWERFUL ANIME CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME
NUMBER TWENTY FIVE: LUFFY
Starting with number twenty five! We’ll have another One Piece character come in on the honorable mentions list, but I’m really glad our list is long enough to have included Luffy. I’m a big One Piece fan, so each time I was writing it up I was expanding it until I felt he was absolutely warranted and deserving.
Character Name: Monkey D. Luffy
Anime: One Piece
Wiki Bio: “Monkey D. Luffy, also known as “Straw Hat Luffy” and commonly as “Straw Hat”, is the main protagonist of the manga and anime, One Piece. He is the founder and captain of the increasingly infamous and powerful Straw Hat Pirates, as well as one of its top three fighters. His lifelong dream is to become the Pirate King by finding the legendary treasure left behind by the late Gol D. Roger. He believes that being Pirate King means having the most freedom in the world.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Luffy Workout Routine
NUMBER TWENTY FOUR: KENSHIRO
At number twenty four and twenty three these were two characters I didn’t necessarily have on my first list of the most powerful anime characters of all time, but after reading opinions from others and expanding the list a bit I was sold they they are both deserving of their spots.
Character Name: Kenshiro
Anime: First of The North Star
Wiki Bio: “Kenshiro (Ken for short) is the main hero in the Fist of the North Star franchise. He is the 64th successor of the Hokuto Shinken style and considered one of the greatest successors in its history.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Kenshiro Workout Routine
NUMBER TWENTY THREE: GUTS
As I mentioned above, Guts is also one of the characters I didn’t originally place on my list. However, there are a handful of other lists that make an extremely strong case for why he is one of the strongest anime characters of all time, and as this list grew to over ten, then twenty and eventually hit twenty five, I couldn’t neglect his strengths!
Character Name: Guts
Anime: Berserk
Wiki Bio: “Guts, renowned as the “Black Swordsman”, is a former mercenary and branded wanderer who travels the world in a constant internal struggle between pursuing his own ends and protecting those dear to him.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Guts Workout Routine
NUMBER TWENTY TWO: BAKI
I am a HUGE Baki fan. I plan on bringing Baki’s dad, Yuujiro Hanma, to the site soon, but was waiting until after we finally got this listicle to add characters outside of it. We’ve actually had THREE different Baki inspired workouts up to this point, so it’s safe to say I really like writing them around his character.
Character Name: Baki Hanma
Anime: Baki
Wiki Bio: “Baki Hanma is the main character and protagonist of the Baki the Grappler franchise. He is the son of Yujiro Hanma and Emi Akezawa and the half-brother of Jack Hanma. He is known as the “Champion” of the Underground Arena in Tokyo Dome. In the fourth manga series, he is often called “the World’s Strongest Boy”.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Baki Workout Routine, Baki Calisthenics Workout, Baki Inspired Circuit
NUMBER TWENTY ONE: ALL MIGHT
I have so many anime that I love, but I would say My Hero Academia and Dragon Ball Z are definitely top 2-3. Which is also probably why we have enough character inspired workouts from each of them to give them their own mini databases…. BUT I was super surprised to see that All Might wasn’t included in almost all of the other lists I was researching to get opinions. I actually wanted to put him much higher, but I do weigh in other listicles and opinions while making these so he comes in at twenty one. I’m curious to know how you feel!
Character Name: All Might
Anime: My Hero Academia
Wiki Bio: “Toshinori Yagi most commonly known by his hero name, All Might, is the tritagonist of My Hero Academia. All Might is the former No. 1 Hero who bore the title of the world’s Symbol of Peace. He teaches Foundational Hero Studies at U.A. High School. All Might was the eighth holder of the One For All Quirk after receiving it from Nana Shimura. He has since passed the torch to Izuku Midoriya, whom he is grooming to be his successor.”

NUMBER TWENTY: EDWARD ELRIC
Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime I recently picked up and I was super late to the party. Thankfully our SHJ Army convinced me I HAD to give it a shot and I am super glad I did. Now I finally know what all the hype is about and don’t have to be so confused as FHA inspired workout requests flood my inbox!
Character Name: Edward Elric
Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist
Wiki Bio: “Edward Elric, also known as Ed or the Fullmetal Alchemist, is the titular protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. After losing his right arm and left leg due to a failed Human Transmutation attempt, Ed became the youngest State Alchemist in history by achieving his certification at age twelve. Three years later, Ed has become fully engrossed in his search for the legendary Philosopher’s Stone, an item with which he hopes to restore his younger brother Alphonse Elric, whose whole body had been lost in the aftermath of the human transmutation.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Edward Elric Workout Routine
NUMBER NINETEEN: INUYASHA
Inuyasha is extremely strong, but also really appealing to me as a character to draw training inspiration from. Normally I’m inspired by characters who are powerless (like Batman, Punisher, etc.) but Inuyasha’s half-blood trait, similar to Blade, makes him incredibly powerful while still having that side of humanity to bring us back to.
Character Name: Inuyasha
Anime: Inuyasha
Wiki Bio: “Inuyasha is the main protagonist, as well as the title character, in the manga series InuYasha and its anime adaptation. The half-demon son of a great demon father, known as the Inu no Taishō, and a human mother named Izayoi; he was bound to a sacred tree by a magical arrow from the priestess Kikyō’s bow while attempting to capture the Shikon Jewel. Inuyasha sought the Jewel, thinking it could transform him into a full-fledged demon. Kagome Higurashi, Kikyō’s reincarnation, released him from this spell, but soon after, she accidentally shattered the Shikon no Tama into hundreds of fragments. They reluctantly agreed to work together as a team on Kaede’s behalf to recover all of the fragments that had scattered across Feudal Japan before they fell into the wrong hands. Over time they developed a close bond and eventually fell in love and got married, and became parents to a daughter they named Moroha. Unfortunately, they had be parted for most her early life, having sent her away for her own safety.”

NUMBER EIGHTEEN: AKIRA FUDO
At first I thought Akira Fudo was a strange character to build a workout around. While he is extremely powerful and I knew I wanted to give him a spot in the top twenty of this list, he also brings his power from his demon transformation and his overall aesthetic doesn’t really come with that power. That being said, once I wrote it revolving around those powers within his form, then it became a ton of fun.
Character Name: Akira Fudo
Anime: Devilman Crybaby
Wiki Bio: “Akira Fudo is the human who becomes the eponymous Devilman. Originally passive and coward, but very pure-hearted, thanks to the efforts of Ryo Asuka he is possessed by the demon hero Amon, gaining the demon’s powers and memories while maintaining his human consciousness due to his pure heart, whilst gaining Amon’s bravery, strength and willingness to fight. Now a creature with the body of a demon but the mind of a human, Akira swears to protect his former people against the hordes of demons that seek to destroy humanity.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Akira Workout Routine
NUMBER SEVENTEEN: NATSU DRAGNEEL
Natsu Dragneel is one of those characters on this list that was perfect to work with even though his powers aren’t really “workout friendly”. If you’re a fan of the show you obviously know Dragneel has insane strength, agility, speed, and more; but they don’t necessarily come from some intense training like Goku or Deku for example. That being said, Natsu is SHREDDED and it was a ton of fun to be able to take those powers and bring them into working around his aesthetic as well.
Character Name: Natsu Dragneel
Anime: Fairy Tail
Wiki Bio: “Natsu Dragneel is a first generation Slayer Fire Dragon Slayer and the captain of Team Fairy Tail. He is the younger brother of Zeref Dragneel, who had died originally 400 years ago, having been revived as Etherious and become the former Tartar leader as END (Etherious Natsu Dragneel). Fairy Tail Warcraft Age and the love interest of Lucy Heartfilia”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Natsu Dragneel Workout Routine
NUMBER SIXTEEN: YUSUKE URAMESHI
Yusuke Urameshi JUST missed the top fifteen. Yu Yu Hakusho used to be one of my favorite anime growing up. It came out in 1992, so it’s an older one that I grew up watching the same way I did with Dragon Ball Z. So to have Yusuke on this list even though it didn’t grow to be as big as DBZ is definitely awesome and nostalgic.
Character Name: Yusuke Urameshi
Anime: Yu Yu Hakusho
Wiki Bio: “Yusuke Urameshi is the main protagonist of the manga and anime series YuYu Hakusho. He is a Spirit Detective who is tasked with protecting Human World from various supernatural threats over the course of the series and his closest friends as well as greatest allies include Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, Keiko, Genkai, Koenma and Botan. He is also the de facto leader of Team Urameshi and the general person to look to when the going gets tough. At the start of the series, Yusuke is a teenage delinquent/street fighter with little to no positive qualities to his character. Over the course of the series, he starts becoming a better person, changing into an almost altruistic defender of the Human World.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Yusuke Workout Routine
NUMBER FIFTEEN: KOROSENSEI
Assassination Classroom and our Korosensei workout are fairly new additions to SHJ being that I somehow neglected him and then was reminded when Assassination Classroom made our Top 10 Most Popular Anime list! He CLEARLY deserves his spot among the top fifteen most powerful anime characters of all time. If you’ve watched the show at all (it’s super fun and bingeable) he is super over powered while also being a dynamic character.
Character Name: Korosensei
Anime: Assassination Classroom
Wiki Bio: “Korosensei was the homeroom teacher of Class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High School, and the secondary protagonist and antihero of Assassination Classroom. He claimed to be responsible for creating the permanent crescent moon, and added that he planned to destroy the earth after teaching Class 3-E for a year. Prior to being a teacher, he was the assassin known as “The Reaper“.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Korosensei Workout Routine
NUMBER FOURTEEN: MELIODAS
Meliodas and Natsu Dragneel are in the same field when it comes to being able to build their training style around their aesthetic/physiques as well as them being extremely powerful. Meliodas not only comes in as one of the top fifteen strongest anime characters of all time, but he also was requested COUNTLESS times prior to finally getting him on the site as our first ever Seven Deadly Sins character (we’ve since seen a handful more).
Character Name: Meliodas
Anime: Seven Deadly Sins
Wiki Bio: “Meliodas is the Dragon’s Sin of Wrath and captain of the Seven Deadly Sins, formerly the owner of the renowned tavern Boar Hat, and is the main protagonist of the series and His Sacred Treasure is the Demon SwordLostvayne and his inherent power is Full Counter. He was also the head of the Ten Commandments, as Meliodas the Love and a former member of Stigma. He is the older brother of Zeldris and the eldest son of the Demon King.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Meliodas Workout Routine
NUMBER THIRTEEN: KEN KANEKI
Prior to dabbling in Tokyo Ghoul a bit (only having seen a few episodes) and not researching Ken Kaneki’s character enough to know, I really thought I was going to have a hard time building a routine for him. I knew he was powerful, and I knew the show was insanely popular, but I had no idea how fun it would be to build around his ghoul-form!
Character Name: Ken Kaneki
Anime: Tokyo Ghoul
Wiki Bio: “Ken Kaneki is the main protagonist of the Tokyo Ghoul series. He is currently Touka Kirishima’s husband, and the father of Ichika Kaneki. Previously, he was a student who studied Japanese literature at Kamii University, living a relatively normal life. However, this quickly changed after Rize Kamishiro’s kakuhou was transplanted into him and transformed him into a one-eyed ghoul. Kaneki is the first known artificial one-eyed ghoul. His unique half ghoul state is what later inspires the idea of the Quinx. After joining Anteiku as a part-time waiter, he learns how to live as a ghoul and eventually becomes known as Eyepatch.“
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Ken Kaneki Workout Routine
NUMBER TWELVE: ICHIGO KURASAKI
When I was researching Ichigo to write his routine it felt like the list of his powers and abilities was never-ending. The last time I had felt like that while writing a character workout was with Goku and Vegeta, so it definitely said something about how strong Ichigo is. He doesn’t quite make it into the top ten, but he’s damn close.
Character Name: Ichigo Kurasaki
Anime: Bleach
Wiki Bio: “Ichigo Kurosaki is a Human who is also a Substitute Shinigami. Ichigo is the son of Isshin and Masaki Kurosaki, and older brother of Karin and Yuzu. He is also married to Orihime Inoue and has a son named Kazui Kurosaki.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Ichigo Workout Routine
NUMBER ELEVEN: NARUTO
Just missing the top ten slots by one, up next is Naruto. If it’s and consolation for all you Naruto fans out there, Naruto as an anime came in at number one among our Top 10 Most Popular Anime of All Time! I also was close to having multiple Naruto characters show up on this list (another will be listed in the honorable mentions), but I did my best to keep it to one character per anime, with the exception of one that I couldn’t avoid.
Character Name: Naruto
Anime: Naruto
Wiki Bio: “Naruto Uzumakiis a shinobi of Konohagakure’s Uzumaki clan. He became the jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails on the day of his birth — a fate that caused him to be shunned by most of Konoha throughout his childhood. After joining Team Kakashi, Naruto worked hard to gain the village’s acknowledgement all the while chasing his dream to become Hokage. In the following years, through many hardships and ordeals, he became a capable ninja regarded as a hero both by the villagers, and soon after, the rest of the world, becoming known as the Hero of the Hidden Leaf. He soon proved to be one of the main factors in winning the Fourth Shinobi World War, leading him to achieve his dream and become the village’s Seventh Hokage.”

NUMBER TEN: ALUCARD
We’ve reached our top ten most powerful anime characters of all time, and leading us into the list is Alucard from Hellsing! I mentioned Ichigo’s long list of powers and abilities and how it reminded me of Goku, but the next ten characters are essentially more of the same when you read into their overall power.
Character Name: Alucard
Anime: Hellsing
Wiki Bio: “Alucard is a powerful vampire and one of the main protagonists of the Hellsing anime series. He is the most powerful weapon of the Hellsing Organization working against other vampires and other such supernatural forces. Alucard is no mere vampire; it has been implied that he is one of the most powerful vampires (besides Incognito), as well as the most powerful entity in the entire series. In the English dub of both series, he is voiced by Crispin Freeman. He was responsible for saving Seras Victoria’s life by turning her into a vampire at The Cheddar Village Chapel, rescuing her from the Cheddar Priest. He is also Seras’ master due to her refusal to drink blood and free herself much to his annoyance.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Alucard Workout Routine
NUMBER NINE: ISAAC NETERO
No matter how much I love Hunter X Hunter and Isaac Netero, I can’t help myself to be reminded of Master Roshi every time I think of Netero and his overall character. That said, Netero’s power is tremendous, even in his old age. For that reason, assuming we are discussing his strongest overall abilities he definitely deserves a spot among the top ten.
Character Name: Isaac Netero
Anime: Hunter X Hunter
Wiki Bio: “Isaac Netero was the 12th Chairman of the Hunter Association, and the Head of the Exam Commission. In his youth, he was extolled as the most powerful Nen user in the world, and retained dreadful strength even in his old age.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Isaac Netero Workout Routine
NUMBER EIGHT: EREN YEAGER
Eren Yeager doesn’t have his strength coming from simply being a soldier like we’ve seen from Levi and Mikasa Ackerman (both here at SHJ), but rather from being an insanely powerful Titan. It’s hard to neglect how powerful Yeager becomes, especially from where he started. Part of me wanted to keep him top fifteen or twenty, but after continuing my research all things point to him deserving his spot in the top ten.
Character Name: Eren Yeager
Anime: Attack on Titan
Wiki Bio: “Eren Yeager is a former member of the Survey Corps and the main protagonist of Attack on Titan. He lived in Shiganshina District with his parents and adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman until the fall of Wall Maria. During the incident, Eren impotently witnessed his mother being eaten by a Titan. This event would lead to Eren’s intense hatred towards the Titans as he swore to wipe all of them off the face of the Earth. Soon afterward, his father, Grisha Yeager, found him and gave him the key to his basement, instructing Eren to find it at all costs and retake Wall Maria. He then injected Eren with a Titan serum.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Eren Yeager Workout Routine
NUMBER SEVEN: MOB
Mob’s workout is one of two that were extremely different while writing a routine. Specifically Mob is a character that actually avoids physical activity. The fact that he is so outrageously powerful made it so that we needed to act as if his powers were converted to our need for strength gain considering we aren’t going to be gaining his abilities anytime soon.
Character Name: Mob
Anime: Mob Pyscho 100
Wiki Bio: “Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed “Mob” and “White T-Poison” is a third-year student at Salt Middle School and vice-president of the Body Improvement Club. He is also a former assistant and disciple of Arataka Reigen.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Mob Workout Routine
NUMBER SIX: JOTARO KUJO
Outside of being absolutely ginormous, Jotaro Kujo is also insanely powerful. On top of just being strong (like…really strong), he also has one of the most powerful Stands to pair with it, making him miss being within our top five most powerful characters of all time by just one!
Character Name: Jotaro Kujo
Anime: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Wiki Bio: “Jotaro Kujo is the protagonist of Stardust Crusaders. He appears prominently in Diamond is Unbreakable, briefly in Vento Aureo, and again in a key role in Stone Ocean. Jotaro is the third and most recurring JoJo of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series.Wielding the incredibly powerful Star Platinum, Jotaro is the first JoJo introduced with a Stand, and is among the most well-known characters of the series.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Jotaro Kujo Workout Routine
NUMBER FIVE: SIMON
Simon is super powerful in multiple aspects. I’ll admit that when I was first crafting my list he was closer to top ten or fifteen, but with more thorough research I was convinced to bring him into the top five. Now, I’m still a little on the fence about that, but I am curious where you guys think he should be placed among these other insanely strong characters.
Character Name: Simon
Anime: Gurren Lagann
Wiki Bio: “Simon, also known as Simon the Digger (Anahori Shimon in Japanese), is the central protagonist of the anime and manga series, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. He begins the story as a short, unassuming and lonely young boy, but grows up into a commanding and well-loved man. Hailed for being like a drill (a dynamic he explains at the top of this article), he became known as a legendary hero who overcame impossible odds both personal and universal and now stands eternally as a beacon for the good of all man and Spiral kind.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Simon Workout Routine
NUMBER FOUR: GOKU
Not only do we have a full Dragon Ball Z Inspired Workout Database within our Anime Workouts Database, but we also have more than five different Goku inspired workout routines alone…So, you kind of had to know he was going to land within the top five at a very minimum! Our Dragon Ball Universe is actually the only one that is showing up on this list twice, outside of the inclusion of also factoring in our honorable mentions (which they’ll also have a character in), but I just couldn’t NOT include Goku.
Character Name: Goku
Anime: Dragon Ball Z
Wiki Bio: “Son Goku”, born Kakarot, is the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball metaseries. Goku is a Saiyan originally sent to destroy Earth as an infant. However, a head injury at an early age alters his memory, ridding him of his initial destructive nature and allowing him to grow up to become one of Earth’s greatest defenders. He constantly strives and trains to be the greatest warrior possible, which has kept the Earth and the universe safe from destruction many times.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Goku Workout Routine, Goku Calisthenics Workout, Goku Inspired Jump Rope Workout, Goku Inspired Circuit Workout, Goku Cosplay Workout Routine
NUMBER THREE: TETSUO SHIMA
I’m going to be completely honest: I did not WANT to give Tetsuo a top five spot, but I felt there was no way around it. He is insanely powerful. He is the other character that I was talking about when I mentioned it being a bit different to write a routine around when we talked about Mob; but nevertheless I think Tetsuo got the right slot!
Character Name: Tetsuo Shima
Anime: AKIRA
Wiki Bio: “Tetsuo is both the deuteragonist and main antagonist of the AKIRA franchise. Thematically, he represents the destructive potential of power in the wrong hands.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Tetsuo Shima Workout Routine
NUMBER TWO: BEERUS/WHIS
This slot is TECHNICALLY for Beerus, but I did want to make mention to Whis. The show creator specifically calls Whis the strongest character in Dragon Ball, but to keep it to characters we’ve hit and to not add another to the list of honorable mentions I wanted to at least make mention to him and give him credit. Beerus also came in as number one among our Most Powerful Dragon Ball Characters, which I also gave Whis credit where it is due.
Character Name: Beerus
Anime: Dragon Ball Super
Wiki Bio: “Beerus is the God of Destruction of Universe 7. He is accompanied by his martial arts teacher and attendant, Whis. Beerus’ twin brother is Champa, the God of Destruction of Universe 6.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: Beerus Workout Routine
NUMBER ONE: SAITAMA ONE PUNCH MAN
How many of you saw this one coming? One Punch Man is literally an overpowered hero. And that’s not me talking about a character like Superman or Thor; he is literally created as one. His power is so strong that (and you can read more of this in his brief bio as well), he doesn’t even gain a thrill from winning! Another awesome part about One Punch Man is that he actually talks about his workout within the show so we were able to go ahead and pull directly from it.
Character Name: Saitama
Anime: One Punch Man
Wiki Bio: “Saitama is the main protagonist of the series and the titular One-Punch Man and the most powerful being to exist in the series. Saitama faces a self-imposed existential crisis, as he is now too powerful to gain any thrill from battle. Initially just a hero for fun, Saitama later registers to be a professional hero for the Hero Association and defends his home in Z-City from monsters, villains, and other threats. Under the Hero Association, he is assigned the hero name Caped Baldy and is currently ranked 7 in the B-Class.”
SHJ Inspired Training Protocol: One Punch Man Workout Routine
And now it’s time for some honorable mentions.
These are in no specific order, and I’ll link out to the ones we already have workouts for!
Honorable Mentions:
- Light Yagami – Death Note
- Madara Uchiha – Naruto
- Hagoromo Otsutsuki – Naruto
- White Beard – One Piece
- Dio Brando – Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
- Jiren – Dragon Ball Super
- All for One – My Hero Academia
- Zeno – Dragon Ball Super
